SO Many Native Tasmanian Animals at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary! | Hobart, Tasmania, Australia

During our tour from the port of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia we visited the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary near Brighton, around a 30-minute drive from the cruise port. Bononrong means native friend or companion, and all the animals at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary are native to Tasmania. This is a true sanctuary, not a zoo. They rescue injured, ill and orphaned animals with the goal of releasing healthy animals back into the wild. For those too old, ill or injured, they care for the animals. It is a great place to see and get close to native Tasmanian animals. The keepers know the animals and know each individual animal well.

The animals we met that day were -
Tasmanian Devil
Tiger Snake
Rainbow Lorikeet
A Cockatoo called Fred
Albino Pademelon
Quokka
Forester Kangaroos (and there is Kangaroo food available to feed them!)
Tawny Frogmouth
Echidnas - we met Luigi who was missing a leg
Stella the Wombat
It is such an incredible place. Feeding the kangaroos was fabulous and learning about the animals made it such a personal visit. If you are in Tasmania, I highly recommend it!

I was so happy to see a lot of these like the Tasmanian devil because I knew I wouldn't see them in the wild. It was fantastic and they love these rescue animals so much, it was lovely to see. Thanks so much for coming along with us!

That bird is over 100 years old?!?! That Tasmanian Devil is adorable. It is cool to see all the native Tasmanian wildlife. But I am in love with Tasmanian Devils now. Thanks for sharing the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary with us!

That Tasmanian Devil was SO adorable, it reminded me of an old dog. I loved seeing all the Tasmanian animals and learning about them, they do a great job of caring for them. Thanks so much for watching!

Last time I visited Bonorong was back in 2018 after a first visit in 2015. Fred broke a branch from his tree and gave it to me passing it through the wire of his cage. I am happy to see that he is still alive. What a great place. I would really like to go back one day.
