Since Conor is still under contract with the UFC for 2 more fights, you have to wonder how big of a piece of pie the UFC will demand. The UFC is not in the business of being generous when it comes to money. Dana White will always try to get every last cent. The UFC has had the same performance bonuses for almost 2 decade. They haven’t increased how much they give ($50K) and they haven’t increased the number of bonuses given in a single night. For UFC 300, during the pre fight press conference a reporter asked if the bonuses would be higher since it was a milestone card for the UFC. Dana asked, “how much should it be?”. Justin Gaethje said $100K but Michael Johnson said $300K and the crowd went nuts, Dana was in a great mood (probably because he saw the early PPV buys) and immediately said “done!”. The move paid off as Max Holloway had one of the greatest knockouts in UFC history. Does that happen without $300K on the line? We’ll never know but what we do know is that Max has never done that before. It paid off for both the UFC and Max Holloway, who earned 2 bonuses and $600K in addition to his base pay for the fight meaning he cleared 7 figures pretty easily. A few cards later one of the fighters asked if Dana could once again up the bonuses. Dana wasn’t in as good of a mood that night but he agreed to move it to $100K. The card largely flopped especially the main card. At the post fight press conference Dana White did what Dana White does. “We’re done with increasing the performance bonuses. It made a huge different tonight. 8 decisions on the card? Yeah, no more increase in bonuses”. This guy couldn’t stomach the idea of paying his employees (I know Dana says they’re independent contractors so he doesn’t owe them any benefits) who take years off their live cutting obscene amounts of weight and taking shots to the head. The UFC has made Dana White a billionaire. But giving the people who have been integral in allowing Dana to be as wealthy as he is an extra $150K a few times a year is too much to ask.

I know he donated like $8 billion to Zuckerberg’s foundation which dropped Buffett’s net worth to right at around $5 billion meaning he donated more, a lot more, than he kept for him. A few years later Buffett had made back everything he donated and his net worth again approached $15 billion. It’s crazy to me how billionaires, even when they’re aging, don’t want to let go of their money. I swear if you really asked a lot of them some of them would say that “if I give it away, it’s gone. But if I keep it, it’s possible that in the afterlife it might come with me”. Most famous billionaires other than Buffett simply make donations they use as tax write offs. I’m sure Buffett does that too. It’s his right. But Buffett is donating because he wants to make the world a better place and help people who have no way out even if they have a masters and are willing to work 70 hours a week of manual labor. All of us that live in western, first world countries are so lucky it’s hard to put into words.
