I watched this show in London and Sheridan Smith was fantastic. The audience were on their feet and they loved her. This girl is something special. She loved what she was doing and it was infectious. Great performance as Elle.

In all fairness, Sheridan Smith may not be the best Elle when it comes to voice quality and energy but the comic relief and the humor is definitely awesome. Her British accent shows off from time to time even though she's trying so hard to get the CaliGirl accent. She's definitely not LBB but she's so much better than Bailey. I love her Elle.

Heidi Rodis Agree but she's not trying to be Laura she's doing her own portrayal, I love LBB though and think she was/is the best Elle Woods (besides Reese Witherspoon but I mean musical wise) I do think that Bailey was bad in all honestly. I think Sheridan was/is amazing! Definitely on my top five Elle Woods. :)

Well stated. I don't think Sheridan nails it and is a hair pitchy from time to time but is energetic and committed. "Legally" was a bigger success in London so something was happening in a good way. I saw LBB in person and I was blown away. I'm assuming Sheridan is more engaging in person as well.

I saw her four times, and thought she was brilliant. She may not have the best voice (however she's always in key, can hit all the notes) but Jesus, she was funny, you couldn't help but love her. I'm not someone to say anyone is good, if they're terrible I'll say so, nothing worse than a bad stage performance, but she just shone.

I know some people dislike her voice, but I kinda like it because its deeper than Laura’s and that gives it a kind of differebt quality that is quite unique. I also found her accent quite enduring rather than distracting

I think we all know she didn't get the role coz of her voice (even though she improved so much whilst doing the show), she got the part coz she is Elle woods, i love her in this part!! But people have obviously sung it better, however not many people have acted as good or better then her in this role! (my opinion)

@JennWrig100 woah there each to their own - i've seen all three of those yes and almost every other musical thats been in the west end over the last 10 years and would pick legally blonde over any of them anyday for sheer enjoyment factor. sure its a different type of musical but its as 'real' a musical as any other, and the london critics certainly agree.

OK so I know a lot of these comments are old but I just had to throw in my thoughts. I think she plays Elle a little too much maturity for the role in the beginning she doesn’t seem genuinely upset that her ex boyfriend just proposed to his girlfriend. She seems a little more.. reflective of the whole thing and less torn up about it. As if she’s accepting it. That’s not a problem except for the fact that this song is supposed to be this very triumphant moment when Elle realizes she’s not there just to get him back and the fact that she doesn’t have the emotional switch here kind of takes away from the message of the song in my opinion. That being said a lot of people have said she would do really great in Greece and I think she could definitely play some other roles really well I just don’t think this was a good one for her

Been a musical geek for 15+ years...going all over the world to se marathon musicals...(10 shows in a week) my all time favorite is Miss Saigon, but i agree Legally Blonde has something about it...its not the musical masterpiece like Les Mis is or as new and genre intenting as fex. Wicked was...But im not to much of a musical snob to admit that LB is one of my guilty musical pleasures...

Accents are A LOT harder when singing than when speaking, especially if you're classically trained (I don't know if she is though) because you want to be singing with good placement which the accent can throw off a little bit. Especially considering this was probably filmed early in the morning, as someone said.

I think this is a bad reflection of her to be honest, she's performing on a morning talk show and they all have barely any space as the stage, if you can find any videos of her live in the show Sheridan is so much more active. I've seen her twice and she makes elle so humorous. Her voice is not her strong point though

Les Mis tries too hard to be epic, constantly. Chess is people screaming at each other non-stop. Phantom's music is unoriginal, boring and pretentious, and the plot is just as bad. All three of those shows choose spectacle over genuine musical and dramatic creativity and intelligence. I'm a student of musical theatre at one of the best performing arts schools in Australia and I would pick Legally Blond over any of those shows in a second. Tell me, what defines a "real" musical?
