The song was based on a dying serviceman, grateful to his colleagues for not leaving him and commenting on the futility of war

It’d about the Falklands war but relevant to any war to this day.

During the Falklands war a young guy came into my hair salon in England for a hair cut. He was in the army and had been fighting in the Falklands war! He told about me about an experience he had when his hair caught fire on the back of his head, and he didn't know because he couldn't feel it burning for some reason. His friend put the fire out. I'll never forget his story!😢

He died in the mountains, but he was from a valley. He has mixed emotions about the men he died for, and the cause they fought for, and he regrets taking up arms to fight. But he has love for them, and he gave his life, regardless of how he feels about it, bitter or not.

when you watch the video, it plays out like a diary of the war, the waiting to sailing over, the landing, the push, the first ships sunk and the dying sailors, then the charge to the final objectives, the second series of sailors dying en-mass, the different world back home in England, the final battle of the soldier to whom the perspective is told from, the desire not to fight and the follies and loss of war, then the fields of the fallen and the subtleness of the graves merging into the sea to honour the fallen sailors too, then the calm weather after war and it all fades to a distant memory. so cleverly and respectfully put together, such class. in response to your initial question, "but my home is the lowlands" is reference to the catchment areas of those of whom generally serve, working class people, lowlands, valleys and farmsteads.

In the 1st World War, from 1914 to 1918, there was great excitement for a young man to go off 'on an adventure.''' This was a time when the majority of people did not get to travel far. You had 15 year olds going to fight in the most horrible situations, lieing about their ages. The lyrics are saying.. they are burning or desiring so much to go and fight with their friends, or 'brothers in arms.' In World War 1, the young men from a whole village would go off and fight. Most died or were horribly wounded.

I read that after they performed this song at Nelson Mandela’s tribute concert the song was so popular in South Africa that the “powers that be” asked who should get the royalties. They replied “Amnesty International.” After that they were banned from performing in South Africa.

This whole album is a trip. It'd be an interesting album reaction for sure, but it goes a lot of places. This song is the last one on the album, and the album version is much longer with lots of places for the different parts to breathe. It's notable that Brothers in Arms was one of the very first all-digital productions in the music industry, all the way back in 1985. And it sounds fantastic. The original release version has so much dynamic range because it was before compression and getting everything as loud as possible was really a thing. As a result, the loud parts of songs really stand out from the quieter sections. "Why Worry" is dreamy and intimate. "One World" is poppy and bombastic. My favorite deep cut from the album, though, has to be "Your Latest Trick". It paints such a neat musical picture, you can almost smell the air surrounding the story.

In UK, there are the Highlands, like in Scotland (mountainous) and more to the south, the Lowlands. As Stephen said, this is about a war, provoked by a english politician just for her "glory" . A lot of good men and women lost their lives for nothing. I am a German, but my respect goes out to all those who protect and serve their people.

I'm sure the BRITISH population of the BRITISH Falkland Island's feel a bit different about it. The taskforce was sent to liberate the islands that had been illegally invaded by Argentina. The task of taking the islands back, was authorised under a UN security council resolution. Argentina didn't think the British had the capability, nor the will, to sail eight thousand miles to liberate the island's. They were very wrong & suffered the consequences.
@jo.s79933 ай бұрын
@@TheOrlandoTrustfull Same here, & ironic that it's a German complaining about it. How dare we liberate our islands from foreign invaders! if I was German, I'd keep my mouth shut, & my head down when it comes to invasion & warfare.
