Huttons Valley Permaculture

I haven't published a video for a few weeks now, so what have I been up to!?
In today's video we'll catch up on happenings in the front veggie garden, work on my new chicken run, chop and drop activity out in the swales. I have some beautiful little lambs to introduce and finally I wanted to share some other happenings in my life. These will affect the time I'll have for gardening and making videos, so if you're interested in finding out about that, please watch until the end!!
If you enjoy my content consider a donation. It will help me diversify my plantings in the food forest and through out my gardens. Thank you!! Link below.

There is quite a lot I didn’t mention in the video for example, that condensation in my house has been a big issue and has contributed to the mould count. I’ll have to replace skirtings and architraves if I can’t sand out the water damage. Also in regards to my health I have multiple chemical sensitivities, mast cell activation syndrome, hashimotos, leaky gut - all of which I’m working on with my CIRS qualified practitioner. Lots to fix but at least I have a plan now!!

Dear Linda, I wish you steady recovery and thank you for your sharing and warning all of us. My family ( in Switzerland ) is also fighting water damages and a lot of mould and mildew and having poor health for a long time. Do not worry about the videos, no matter how rare they will be much appreciated. Let the sun and warmth be with you❤️

Hi Linda, I’m sorry you’ve been dealing with such stubborn health issues, but glad you’re on the path to treatment now. Health comes first, and I’ll be here ready to watch your videos when you have time and energy to share something! I'm so happy to see you and your farm again, but sorry to hear your health news. I've recently diagnosed myself too, with "farmer's lung," after 16 months of never feeling well since having flu and bronchitis last year. Any trace of mould brings on paroxysms of coughing and I'm short of breath most of the time. I bought several large bales of hay about 4 years ago, which had been sitting outside in the rain. All of them had lots of mould inside, and it started off this hypersensitivity pneumonitis. It is one of the biggest vocational killers of farmers. My old timber house has always been damp and mouldy too. But there's no way of fixing that. Hopefully you will make some videos later, detailing your health progress! Seems plenty of us suffer from similar issues.

Get an ERMI dust test done of your home - not cheap but definitely worth it as it will tell you whether you have significant mould issues or not. Good luck :) I live in the great Bear rainforest, and I feel you ❤️ so wet and yucky in most of the buildings here unfortunately. The native people of this land knew how to deal with these problems but modern designs don’t hold up unfortunately without a lot of care and finances.
@huttonsvalleypermaculture
@huttonsvalleypermaculture 14 күн бұрын
Thank you! What I've learnt is that not only are modern designs letting us down but we've selected for these organisms to grow in our homes with the use of chemicals, both in agriculture, starting in the 50's, and in our paints, with the use of fungicides. These produce resistant organisms that have mutated overtime to produce the mycotoxin producing moulds that are problematic for so many, and our highly insulated homes provide a nice moist living space when leaks utlimately happen!

@huttonsvalleypermaculture
@huttonsvalleypermaculture 16 күн бұрын
Thank you! My thoughts at this stage is just to do wander through the property videos showing what's going on with little maintenance - might be kind of interesting. To test for these problematic organisms you do a test called an ERMI - you can look that up to get an explanation of what that means. Basically you take dust samples from around the home and send them in to a particular lab in the US (I used a lab in Australia which supplies the sample kit and organises the sending of the samples. It takes about 2 weeks to get the results back. It's not cheap but is worthwhile.

@@huttonsvalleypermaculture it would definitely be interesting to see what goes on for a year of little maintenance. i took this year off and am amazed at the catnip forest that is currently feeding the birds. my deep mulch means few other weeds and some healthy tomatoes. the collards and kales are coming back after woodchucks took out much of the rest of what i planted before i left town. melons and winter squash are slim, but alive and ripening. thanks for the details about the ERMI test. I am in the market for a home - built my farm that i sold - so i'm concerned about hidden molds, etc.

Hi Helen and thank you. The truth is going carnivore for 6 months was what helped me diagnose my problem. All I'd wanted was to fix my leaky gut once and for all so that I could have dairy again - hmm not to be!! The weight lose was while I was on carnivore. Discovered I could not absorb fats - bile issues (from many years of fat free living - can you remember in the 80's you had to avoid fat at all costs!!!), so my body was using my own stores (which were runniing out!!) and I did lose lots of weight. Anyway if carnivore doesn't heal you then CIRS needs to be considered and that's what it was. Didn't publise as I felt conflicted with promoting organic veggie growing but not consuming them. I did watch my words carefully in videos - most of the food I harvested back then went to friends and family and I also cooked for my nephew. Any way I'm back to eating mostly animal based with some veg - still avoiding lots like nightshades due to the leaky gut. I have confidence in the woman treating me but it might be two years before I'm as recovered as I can be. Thanks again Helen xx
