While, yes, it would’ve been their “special first time” it was also supposed to be their best friend’s “special first time”. I would’ve been miserable knowing that he was not experiencing it with us. @mervinmannas76718 ай бұрын
Its not mentioned here but the reason Sirius is able to escape is until then the Dementors keep their prisoners in a constant state of depression making them relive all their worst fears and experiences. so Sirius was never strong enough to change into his dog form. However someone visiting Azkaban leaves a copy of the Daily Prophet and Sirius see's wormtail as a rat in Rons arms. Realising what happened 12 years ago he knows who set him up and that Harry is in danger. This gives him hope and purpose again making him strong enough to transform and therefore by passing the dementors.
@toodlescae8 ай бұрын
Not completely accurate. Sirius said that knowing he was innocent helped keep him sane and so did turning into a dog occasionaly. It's just that Sirius wasn't skinny enough in animagus form to slip between the bars of his cell or determined enough to try to escape until he saw the picture in the newspaper.

The kids still wear their school uniforms to class - you see that when they are in class with Professor Lupin. Outside of class hours, they can wear normal street clothes, and the director really leaned into that. Lupin knew where to find Harry in the Shrieking Shack because he had the map. He hurried off to find Harry, and left the map active, so Snape was able to see where he had gone. A detail they left out of the movie is that the Dementors can't really sense animals, so they can't track Sirius when he's in his dog form. That's how he got into the castle.

In the book, werewolves very closely resemble actual wolves, not the human/wolf hybrid shown in the movie. The question Snape asked the class was about how to tell the difference between them. One of the things that was left out of the movie but was in The Prisoner of Azkaban novel is that James Potter (Harry's father), Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew were the original inventors of The Marauders Map. That is the reason why Professor Lupin knew how to use it. When the original Marauders were students in Hogwarts they were all best friends. When James, Sirius and Peter found out that Remus is a werewolf they decided to become Animagus (wizards that can willfully magically turn into an animal just like Professor McGonagall can turn into a cat) because werewolves don't attack other animals and Remus' friends didn't want him to be alone during the full moon period. This is why the map reveals the weird names when you use the "I solemnly swear I am up to no good" spell. They were the nicknames of the Marauders. Mooney is Remus Lupin because he is a werewolf. Padfoot is Sirius Black because his animagus form is a dog. Wormtail is Peter Pettigrew because his animagus form is a rat. And James Potter is Prongs because his animagus form is a stag. Dumbledore knew about Remus' condition and how Remus became a werewolf when he was only a very small child. So he had the Womping Willow tree planted and had a tunnel put in so that Remus can hide in the Shrieking Shack during the full moon cycle. 🌜🌕🌛🐺🐶🦌🐀🪄🌳🏚

The difference between an Animagus and Transfiguration of ones self is that an Animagus can actually live as the animal where a wizard that transfigures themselves into an animal cannot maintain it for very long. The creators of the map “the marauders” were Harry’s dad’s friend group. Mooney was Lupin because he’s a werewolf, wormtail was Peter Pettigrew because he could transform into a rat (rat tails look like worms), Padfoot was Sirius because Sirius could transform into a dog and prongs was James Potter because he could transform into a stag (a male deer with antlers). They all learned to become animagi to accompany Lupin while he was a werewolf. The reason Lupin knew where to find Sirius and Harry/friends is because he saw it on the map. The reason Snape knew was because Lupin hastily left once he saw it and he was bringing Lupin his full moon potion. Snape then saw it on the map where to find them all.

It tells in the books but they were all shapeshifters because they were all friends in high school and wanted to go out and protect their friend when he had to turn into a werewolf. And Harry's dad turned into a stag and his father's Patronus is a stag too. So technically his father was there with him so Harry wasn't completely wrong. This was said in the books but there was not enough time in the movie to put it in. Great reaction.

"Lupin" is derived from "Lupine," which refers to the genus of flowering plants in the legume family, Fabaceae. The term "Lupine" is also related to "Lupus," which is Latin for "wolf." This connection comes from the belief that certain species of lupine plants were harmful to livestock, just as wolves were. "Lupine" also shares a root with "Lycanthropy," the mythical condition of transforming into a wolf, which we commonly associate with werewolves. Also....In astronomy, Sirius is the brightest star in the night sky. It's part of the constellation Canis Major, often referred to as the "Dog Star" because it's located in the constellation representing a dog.

I like the Volkswagen moniker. Please don't retire it. It makes a fun running joke. It's not the Dementors CAN'T differentiate between people. They just choose not to when it isn't convenient.

30:30 Harry is sassy, but in this moment (which isn't in the KZbin edit) he really does just read what the Marauders Map says after Snape tells it to 'reveal its secrets' - the Map actually responded to Snape's command. The comments might have explained this already, but the Marauders were actually James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew, back when they were students and best friends at Hogwarts. They created the Map, and imbued it with a bit of their own personality. Snape was also at school at the same time as them (as you've probably gathered from Sirius' comments about Harry's dad), and that meant the Map knew who Snape was, and made those comments about him. That's also why Lupin knows it's a Map of the school and gets annoyed with Harry for risking his safety (since at this point Lupin also sadly believes Sirius killed James and Lily and doesn't know the truth yet), even when Harry said 'Mischief managed' and the parchment looks blank at that point. That's a small movie detail that often gets missed - how does Lupin knows it's a Map, unless he's used it before? For anyone who reads the book, it's more obvious.

I watched till the end - talking about mental health is always important. You never know when someone could hear this at a crucial time in their lives. Thank you for speaking about it.
@sp729298 ай бұрын
Congratulation to catch the tip-tap of Peter as a rat!!! Wow! Did not catch that one the first time watching even though I knew the rat was there. A rather important bit from the books that will be quite significant later on about the Patronuses: Not every whizard is able to conjur one and even less are able to conjur a powerful corporal one. Dark whizards (as Voldemort's followers) are not able to conjur one at all. The Patronus takes the a form complementing your personality and could in rare cases even change into another form to complement the person you really love. James Potter's Patronus as well as Animagus form was a stag Lilly's Potter's was a doe. Harry's is the same as his father's but at the same time complements his mother's too.

That tip tapping stood out to me SO much, because I was tryna see or hear whoever was there lol. And that's so interesting about the Patronus!

Your assessment on why Hermione doesn't like Divination was spot on. It's the type of class where I'd imagine having an open mind would be more important than just book smarts.

How time travel works in the Harry Potter universe is my favorite form of time travel.

It's less about changing the past, and more about ensuring the future happens the way it should, which is not common in other time travel stories!

51:57 harry unlocked a genuine happy memory by talking with serious and the offer to live him so harry wouldnt have to go back to his aunts and uncles place. Before he was using a “fake” memory which is really just the thought of his parents and love. Which is strong but he has to technically imagine them as he doesn’t have a memory of them directly from them, only what people have told him and pictures he’s seen of them

@JakeReactsYT -- One of my favorite BTS facts/stories for this film: During the sleepover in the Great Hall scene, Dumbledore (Gambon) and Snape (Rickman) planted a fart machine in Harry (Radcliffe)'s sleeping bag and Dumbledore used a remote to make it go off. These grown men giggling like children makes my heart glow. 🥰😂
@SanyaAngryGolub7 ай бұрын
Moreover, in that scene, Redcliffe deliberately lay down in a sleeping bag next to a girl he liked. And this makes the situation even funnier.

I heard the director allowed them to wear normal clothes to develop their individuality more. This style continues.
@davidfairweather33018 ай бұрын
Yeh Alfonso Cuaron is quite an “artsy” director and he likes everything to have flavour to it, so think he instructed the kids to alter their uniforms to how they would wear them in school, and then had them wear “normal” clothes in the free time to emphasise characters individuality. It’s one of the times where I can let go of book lore, in terms of allowing hogwarts students to be wearing muggle clothing around hogwarts. I kinda like the feel it gives the movie. Overall I think Alfonso made the best movie out of the 7. Not specifically the best “Harry potter film” but an overall film in general. The cinematography is amazing, and I particularly love the long takes he does. Very talented man.

55:50 just the fact that you caught on to him being an animal is already leagues ahead of anyone else i’ve watched reacting to these movies 😭 honestly you caught on so much during this reaction that for a second i wondered if you had heard about some of it before, but your reactions are also super genuine, which makes it all the more amazing! it’s a lot of fun watching you uncover so many clues! most people completely forget they mentioned ‘animagus’ during the class (and not just werewolves), never saw anyone touch on Lupin’s limping + looking sick after he missed the class either!! (even when you mentioned something about his subject being the class Snape always wanted to teach, it surprised me how well you remembered things!) honestly it impressed me a lot overall 😭 even if others end up enjoying the movie, most people get really confused during the scene at the shrinking shack (and i dont blame them, some of the hints are really hard to catch on first watch 😭) but seeing you gathering the clues and slowly unravelling the mystery throughout the whole movie and realizing some of the twists moments before or as they were being revealed was incredible!!
@pugowner13478 ай бұрын
A triple-decker bus. Lol. Have you really never seen or heard reference to a shrunken head? As you said, Lupin saw them on the map and went to the shack. Snape went to Lupin's office to give him a potion to help him keep his humanity during the werewolf transformation and saw them on the map also. "Like Godzilla and that other thing"?? 😂

The Black family (except Narsissa; not met yet) are named after stars/constellations hence the sky in the hall. Sirius is the dog star hence a black dog animagus! The Weasley's are from the house of Black as Arthur's mother was a Black. There is a spell cast on the Dursley house to not only protect Harry but the Dursley's as well. It requires a blood relative; Petunia, and she knows this fact hence why they reluctantly house Harry for at least 2 weeks per year. The spell breaks when Harry becomes 17 or if he leaves for good before. That's why the Dursley's are keen to keep him there and they are also trying to stop him learning more magic.

don’t know if anyone already mentioned it, but in the beginning sirius was barking at harry across the street so he would lift up his wand - which is how the bus finds “stranded wizards”
@miragowaikar986 ай бұрын
another really cool thing: when ron predicted what harry would go through in divination, he was actually right. he would suffer because of what he's going through in this year, the whole sirius black situation, but he was going to be happy about it because he would get a new home. also, dementors are basically a representative of depression.

Mental health is very relevant, not just in these movies (more so as they progress) but in life in general. Good advice. Focusing on the present moment is a great relief. One way of doing that is to notice your own breath for a few minutes, or to sit in silence and just feel a body part, e g your hsmds. Just notice how they feel. The mind is hard to silence so the best way to meditate is to decide a simple thing to focus it on.
@JakeReactsYT8 ай бұрын
Yes meditation is amazing for staying present I love it. Focusing on the breath for me has always been the easiest ☺️
@lmagoddess6 ай бұрын
I know that I'm late to the party here but having adhd combined causes me to have anxiety and depression problems. This mental cocktail makes it damn near impossible to get into a traditional meditative state. I've never been able to sit still long enough to empty my mind. What I can do is hyperfocus. I find that state very relaxing especially if I can move while also focusing on one or two things. Ex: going walking with music and matching my pace with the rhythm actually causes my heart rate to slow down.

Harry got the Firebolt midway, Sirius had sent it. But they still thought Sirius was bad and Hermione told Miss McG about the broom. She confiscated it and stripped it down to check for hexes that might harm Harry. Then it was given back to Harry. He used it during the last Quidditch match against Slytherin. During the match Crabber and Goyle stood on each other's shoulders, put on dark robes and appeared on the pitch like Dementors to scare Harry. Harry had just caught the snitch and used the happiness to cast a Patronus at the Dementor. His Patronus had taken the shape as a stag, Crabbe and Goyle fell on the ground and got detention. This is the only time Harry won the Quidditch Cup in his whole stay, using the Firebolt.

Strangely enough, the best way for me to move out of my head is to close my eyes and follow the floaties or shadows or light spots. Whatever is there. 🤷♀️ It works. But I had one amazing experience where I was suddenly 'transported' (just in my mind, but it was so realistic) to a vast white nothingness of snow were I just trudged along in exquisite peacefulness and harmony with myself. I've never been able to find that again, try though I have, and that makes me sad. Like something was offered then snatched away.

I really appreciate reactions with actual insightful commentary. I think you're the only one I've seen to comment on some of Hermione's flaws, and pinpoint exactly why she reacted so rudely toward a teacher which is usually completely out of character for her. You're right, she isn't very in touch with her spiritual side and struggles with open-mindedness at times. I see hardly anybody talk about this but it's such an interesting and multi-faceted part of her character!
@dammyjodger17 ай бұрын
And btw, not sure if this is obvious in the film, but the reason she was granted the time turner is because she took basically all the elective classes and there literally aren't enough hours in the day to attend them all. As an exceptional student, McGonagall decided to help her take them all. After the storming out scene in the book, however, she drops Divination class 😂

It's subtle, but in the beginning when Dursley's sister is talking bad about his mother Petunia (Harry's Aunt) actually looks pained. Before and after it's concerned / worried about what Potter will do. But in that moment it actually feels like she's uncomfortable with the topic and pained by the comments directed at her sister. Even will all her issues it's sort of a I can say mean things about my dead sister but it's not ok for anyone else to moment. At least that's how I've always read that look.
