My great grandparents were from Soğucak (Kryonero - "Cold water" in Greek). Interesting video. To think that my great grandparents might have played in some of those streets as kids. Some of the houses (5:03, 5:22, 10:06) look like they are from the time of the population exchange.

@@kotanjan9367 From the village of Kalampaki, Drama, Greece. Most of Soğucak Greeks were relocated there after the population exchange of 1923. About 1/3 of the population of the village are descendants of Soğucak Greeks, 1/3 are from Pontus, and 1/3 are descendants of Greeks living there already in 1923 and Karamanlides who came from Cappadocia.

@@DiRECs My grandfather and grandmother came from Drama in 1923. From the few old documents I could find, the old name of the place they came from was "Leşten" and the new name was "Farasina", but I'm not sure about that. Did your family leave anyone behind when they left here? Several of my grandfather's siblings stayed there. And how old are you?

@@kotanjan9367 Interesting. I googled it and there seems to have been a village named Leshten inhabited by Pomaks in the mountains north of Drama. After translating information from Bulgarian Wikipedia (article: Лещен (Драмско)) it seems that in 1900 there were 291 Bulgarian muslims (Pomaks) living there. During the Balkan War 1912-1913, Bulgarians occupied and caused damage to the village. When Greece took the region and after the Treaty of Lausanne, its muslim inhabitants were transferred to Turkey, while 116 Greek refugees were settled there. It was renamed Farasinon (Φαρασσηνόν), but conditions were bad, and the village was abandoned around 1930. Its coordinates (put them in Google Maps) are 41°28'00.0"N 24°31'00.0"E, but it is hardly visible. It's in the forest now. It is a hard area to live at and it seems nature has taken over. I have not heard in the family of any relative staying in Soğucak after 1923. They would have had to have been a muslim in order to stay and I have not heard of anything like that. My great-grandparents were the ones that left, so if they were 1st generation, I am 4th generation.
