Honestly I believe sims 3 is the best game. What keeps me from playing sims 2 for more than an hour is the fact that there’s no life outside of your household. I could have multiple generations in one household and in the time it takes for my sims to live and die, Beau Broke is still a toddler and Brandi is still pregnant and Cassandra is still about to marry Don. The sims 3 just has so much life.

Honestly, would love a Tomodachi life sequel/successor, but how would people feel if there was a bit more depth over it? Like your miis/sims getting jobs, instead of just milling about the house/apartment, but you can approve what jobs they get? Maybe the town needs certain jobs filled, so you can create a character specifically for that role, like miitopia, but any existing one can fill a new slot rather than needing a brand new character.

To anyone interested: In the last few years, there have been a few script mods released for The Sims 3 that have fixed a lot of the graphical, lag and QoL issues that plagued the game for far too long. These mods (Created by NRAAS and Tumblr user LazyDutchess) have been a literal game changer, I highly recommend them if you are like me and you no longer want to support EA but you still want a fun and full Sims experience.

I really agree with the taking away control thing because I put endless hours into Tomodachi Life for that reason. While it could be incredibly frustrating to have your Mii not do what you want, in a sense it made them feel more real at times. While it wasn't the perfect game by any means it did incredibly well at capturing your imagination and allowing you to connect dots and make your own story in your head.

I had to rebuy sims 3 on steam because the switch from origin to EA app messed up my game, I waited months for the issue to get fixed and nothing.. I lost a family I’d been playing for months when I finally got the sims 3 back after the computer I played it on before broke a few years prior. Sims 3 has been a fairly important coping mechanism and just way to express myself for me since like 2013 so I just couldn’t wait forever and rebought it during a steam sale. (I do know I could’ve 🏴‍☠️ it but the game is already so unstable that I just didn’t want to mess with that)

To them, games are a high risk gamble, so the winning play is to ALWAYS bet for the highest reward possible. Which in this case, is the live-service model. Look at other studios, how many live service games failed in the last decade? It doesn't matter, because if they get even ONE successful live service game going, they get to have all their money back and then some. A single cosmetic DLC sale for a live service game can create more profit than the sales of a single successful single player game.

Let's say you customize your town and you are satisfied with it. Now what? The villaigers have always been a huge part of the games, but there's no new or unique mechanics surrounding them, and after a week their actions / dialogue start repeating over and over. So what do you do? Get new villagers? But what If I LIKE my villaigers? Or do I start over? But there's no fun in starting over if that entails doing the same exact grinding for the same exact items for the same exact goal: a fancy looking town, nothing more. Can you actually name 5 mechanics (outside of town customization) that is not repetitive and actually significantly improves gameplay + quality of life by comparison to the last installments?

Personally I'd much rather keep enjoying games that I already know and love (I stick to TS2 myself) than keep my hopes up for a new game. I'm a pretty optimistic person, but when it comes to EA I know that even if the bar is already low, they will still disappoint us.

same - the only "pro-EA" (and even that is a bit questionable) Sims content creator I watch is Plumbella because she is really funny and puts a lot of thought into her content rather than just copying what everyone else is doing. beyond her, the only Sims creators I watch are those that are rightfully critical of EA/TS4 (SatchOnSims, Rekowski, Malcolm, etc). a post-TS4 game would have to have stellar reviews across the board to get my business back. I think it's just so sleazy to do this to their fans. To just say "No we don't want to do that to people, to make them reset their progress~ We're doing this for YOU." But that's just it. People WANT to reset their progress. People WANT new games. People want NEW stories and NEW families. They don't want to just sit and play the same experience forever. That's why there are 16 mainline final fantasy games. That's why there are SO many Pokemon games. Because people want to explore new worlds and ideas. Sure some series like WoW have gotten away with never coming out with a sequel and just moving on, but in exchange they've had to do massive updates over the years, constantly releasing new content and new challenges, big changes and new stories, not tiny little dlc packs that add 3 chairs and a new hair style. This is both greed AND laziness. Like, y'all aren't failing, ya'll can afford to invest in the Sims 5 and take a RISK and make something NEW, it's how we get new and incredible things, but instead they're complacent and they know they can just keep releasing their shitty little packs and the sims community will keep buying them. If people would STOP buying them then maybe they'd actually go "Oh... maybe we do need to do something different." Higher ups at studios bother the hell out of me. Because one interaction that happens repeatedly, regardless of the game. Players: "we want this but multi player please." Person making decisions: "Massive amounts of people want online multiplayer... Ah! We make an MMO! That's what they want! They want MMO!" I think an important aspect to this whole "We're going to be building onto The Sims 4 into perpetuity" thing is the fact that the game is already so old, buggy, and bloated with the absolute glut of DLC it has that MANY people are CURRENTLY finding that it simply just cannot perform like it should anymore. Some big-name Sims KZbinrs are even talking about how they can barely run the game anymore, now. And EA thinks it's a good idea to just KEEP ADDING ONTO THAT, like that's going to do anything but just exacerbate the problem! I've been saying for years that it's impossible to actually "fix" The Sims 4 because it is fundamentally built upon a broken foundation, and that in order to actually deliver the game players want they need to start completely over from square one. But now that we know for certain that they're refusing to do that, I have absolutely no hope for the future of this franchise, and expect to watch it continue to just slowly lower itself into the grave under the weight of its copious expansions.

Glad someone agrees with me about inZoi. The exaggerated hyper-realism just looks uncanny, specially in a game that's supposed to be light-hearted. Not only that, but the general playebase of life-sim games are people with mid to low end PCs, I doubt many would be able to run it properly based on the demo. I have a beefy PC but I know most don't. And of course, the AI images just made me hate it with a passion. If it can become actual competition for The Sims, good for them, but I'm not playing it. Excited about Paralives though!

You're not wrong, I didn't think of that. Part of what made WW and NL so great was that you couldn't decide your town, or where you put your house, or who the villagers were. You couldn't stop them from leaving and the newcomers could place their houses anywhere they wanted. This lack of control ironically made the player feel like they were part of a real community. In NH you feel like an outsider- you can decide everything and anything. Your word is law. You're an omniscient god who decorates houses and picks the prettiest lobotomized villagers for your town. You aren't equals with your villagers who ALL adore you. I enjoy NH, but even I can't deny that the game is very soulless.

sometimes I feel disrespected as a far cry fan. On my first playthrough of far cry 5 I paused the game and the little movie player that shows advertisements in the top right hand of the screen literally showed the ending of the game as part of the trailer for the next game. So I saw how the game ended before getting a chance to finish it myself. And then they also had no unique weapons in far cry 5 The way they did in four. The specialty weapons are literally just camouflage versions of guns you already have as opposed to the previous games where the special weapons were one of a kind. I feel like minority in thinking that Inzoi looks terrible. The hyper-realism uncanny valley look is just not for me. I want to feel like I'm controlling (sentient) dolls, not real people in a real city. Even though I hated the stylization of the sims 4 when it launched, it's really grown on me and made me realize how important having a cartoon-ish quality is. If they released an updated version of the sims 2 (runs on modern systems and maybe the customization we had in sims 3, doesn't even need updated graphics) I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Sims 2 was my first sims game, so it feels very nostalgic. Sims 3 had some features that I really wanted and missed in sims 2 (open neighbourhood that ages with your sims and the customization), so I can forgive some of the bugs it had. Also, I'm not saying yay AI for everything, but like, how cool would live mode be with modern AI? We could finally have actually unique and intelligent Sims. The anouncement that they don't want people to have to start over is, frankly, ridiculous. For the love of god, EA, make a new Sims game. I don't want my save files to suddenly corrupt any more. I WANT TO START OVER. Until there is a new main line Sims game built from the ground up without any code from TS4, I won't be giving another dime to EA. I genuinely believe they are nervous about the impending release of Paralives in 2025 and are trying to hold off a bit until they know what kind of competitor they have. PL has been funded via their Patreon for years now. EA only showed off their very early days build editor with new features years after PL actually showcased the same build features - features that really made them stand out from the Sims. EA anouncing that they want to involve their community is also interesting to me because PL has had heavy community input into gameplay features, UI, and styles for YEARS.

My favourite sims game were the sims castaways and the sims medieval. I just felt very lost as a kid with what to do after building a house and having a goal made it more fun to me. Wish they made a the sims rpg again

The best thing I did this year was buy a copy of the Sims Castaway secondhand and borrow my sibling's WiiU to play it. 100% the most fun I've had in a Sims game this year and I finally got to finish the game! I never finished it as a kid, I always got lost or stuck trying to raise moods

@PLKinka Might not be exactly to your taste, but I play medieval Sims 2. I have a whole separate Sims 2 save with it's own download folder full of medieval default replacements (dirt roads, carriages etc.) It's not directed, but it's very fun and challenging on it's own when your Sims lack most basic necessities and have to farm their food themselves. I'd really advise looking into Sun and Moons mods as well as the medieval caste traits for a start. There's a lot of other resources that help with building your own medieval economy in Sims 2

Tbh I don't think the switch would handle Sims 4. I'm sure they tried to make a console port for it (as they always put their console ports on all 3 consoles) but the switch isn't super great for big games and with all the content for Sims 4 it probably just didn't work out

The Switch wouldn't be able to handle a game of this magnitude, even with only a quarter of the DLC. Your Switch woild burst into flames by the time you hit a loading screen.

If ya'll don't want to keep being scammed by EA, I BEG you - STOP PLAYING THE SIMS 4. Download the sims 3 and patch out the glitches. Pirate the sims 2 and find some graphics mods. Please just stop pretending that you have no choice and that ts4 is the only life simulator game you can play

Tbh there are genuinely aspects of ts4 that I like and enjoy playing, so I do play it guilt free while sailing the seven seas. The only true way to enjoy the game at this point IMO. Ts2 is definitely my favorite of all time, but it’s fair for people to want to play TS4 because it’s the only one that has more diverse and queer options, for example, without mods. 🤷‍♀️ I do agree people need to stop buying it, but playing is different than buying

Playing TS4 is one thing, paying for new expansion packs is another. EA will only listen to your wallet, at the end of the day. Buying TS3 / its DLC might send a message if enough people do it, but ultimately it will just be padding the pockets of who you're protesting as well

The constant updates and dlc in ts4 literally took over my laptop. The only other game I had downloaded was ts2 and every single update I was getting popups that I couldn't play if I didn't update and didn't have storage space to update. I finally just gave up because if this is the last mainline sims game god only knows how many more updates and dlc we're gonna get. Im not gonna build a crazy pc or invest in an external hardrive just for a game that should have been retired 5 years ago.

I feel bad for the people whose first experience with The Sims is TS4, because they’ll never experience the hype running up to a new mainline entry. I remember the period running up to TS3’s release was so exciting because 2 was already great but 3 just looked like an upgrade in every way possible, the anticipation was palpable. TS4 is kinda where I bowed out, it felt like such a downgrade and gave off the vibe that they wanted to appeal to a younger generation. Always thankful for The Sims though, I made so many friends in the community and when 4 released a bunch of us moved to Second Life.

Kinda wild how the gap between main Sims games used to be 4-5 years, and now we're 10 years into the latest release with no signs of a sequel being developed, let alone released. I’m not a Sims 4 hater - I’ve had my fair share of fun with it - but at this point, it’s impossible to deny that it’s an old game being held back by its ancient foundation. Technology has come so far in the last decade. I mean, the open-world concept they tried with The Sims 3 could totally work now. They could deliver better graphics (which doesn’t necessarily mean ultra-realistic, by the way), expand on relationship and weather systems, create denser cities and/or neighborhoods, improve AI and so much more. I get that the core audience is made of casual players, so it wouldn’t be some ultra-demanding, top-tier hardware kind of game, but even within those constraints, there’s so much potential for innovation. The main argument against Sims 5 is that all the content built up over a decade for the previous game would be lost and they would be starting from scratch but... is having a fresh start really a bad thing? Developers would have a blank canvas to work with instead of being tied to an outdated engine. They would have the chance to improve on what worked, learn from past mistakes and give the game a new personality, which is exactly what the franchise needs right now.
