Great explanation of all the other costs besides your factory fresh or fully overhauled engine. Thanks Roscoe!

Glad you found it useful, it sure adds up quick. Thanks for watching, just did 2 airplanes last month so I could get a handle on the costs.

WOW 😮 this was so helpful. Nobody tells you about all of this. I don’t own a airplane yet but I do want a Grumman when I buy one. They’re hard planes to find

I am asking for informational purposes and not to attack. I just wanted to ask where in the FARS specify that you have to replace engine controls? Depending on what section/part you are operating under , to my knowledge a time based overhaul is not even required, nor is any of the other things in this video except the hose time limit. Are all these things needed or good practice? Most definitely a yes! Thank you for all your knowledge and the service you provide to the Grumman community. (sorry if you have already addressed this issue as I can not see the comments on this video)

It is a recommendation in an AC, also manufacturer of the airframe and the engine both agree. More to an overhaul that the rotating group.

It's a myth that all plane motors rebuild the same. Gentle care and good fluids help. Too much love can backfire. Everything wears out someday.

Correct, but start with the best you can. Being cheap does not work out.

Awesome post. I guess the numbers for Piper Cherokee 140 should be around the same?

When you talk to an engine shop, their price for a 4 cylinder will be about the same whether, O-235, O-320, O-360,

About $1500, plus government involvement which is about $28,000. See how this works?

Hoses alone were more than that. Not sure I want to fly on $10 hoses as an EXAMPLE.

@@GrummanPilots Hoses alone were more than that because of the government, not because the quality was any better.

@@tamugrad2007 Last time I made hoses myself, each fitting in 2005 28.73 (2 per hose) and the hose was $17.00a foot plus my time and hand cramps to assemble. So even manually hoses cost some money.

@@GrummanPilots You're missing the point. The only difference is the ability for company A to put a mil spec on their hoses (probably because they lined the pockets of some politician) while company B chose not to. The quality is EXACTLY the same. But because company A has the license to put the mil spec stamp on it, you pay 10-20 times more for it solely because of the stamp. It has zero to do with quality. Engineering and physics don't change because the government approves putting a stamp on it.

11k seems pretty reasonable all told. I should see about adding that into financing when I buy an AA.

It is like Lycoming's policy for an overhaul, if the case is split, you must install new bearings. Even if old engine had 6 minutes of run time and the bearing looked new. FYI

I reviewed the AA5 maintenance manual, saw nothing in either scheduled or unscheduled maintenance nor ch 73-2-1 nor 73-2-2. Is this from a Service Bulletin? Great topics and information presentation!
