You would be able to speed up your cleaning process significantly if you stopped using hemostats and just selected for non-biting rats to hold back as your breeders. Then you can just stick your arm in and grab em by hand without worrying about a bite. Its also significantly less painful for the rats - that's why they're screaming. Take it from someone running 100+ tubs of rats for feeders, you don't have time for trying to grab every rat with a hemostat. Its not selecting for pet quality, its selecting for proper feeder quality. A feeder rat shouldn't bite. A calm rat is a better producing rat and keeps your process fast and efficient. Stressed and in pain rats are much more likely to fail to breed, neglect or kill their own babies, which only hurts production for feeders. Don't do that to you or your buyers, drop the hemostats, pick em up by hand, keep the non-biters and feed off the rest.

Not to mention if you're feeding live you don't want to breed rats that are more prone to bite the snake, they can really do damage.

I noticed that if you feed Tetra-Min to mice or rats when they are hoppers they transform into bright and intelligent pets. I even add it to my chicks with great results. It's the high protein kind at 40ish% percent.

Dude!!! Wtf with using hemostats to grab them!!!! 🤬 And you close the rack on it's tail. These animals in your care may be feeders, but for cryin out loud give them a smidge of consideration. They are smart affectionate animals they should have at least a humane life as feeders. And no, I'm not a vegan or some delusional person thinking snakes should starve. I know a few people may think that. Ah no. Please just give them a little gentler handling. You can breed for temperament to keep yourself safe grabbing them. And throw in a toy other then shredded paper. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I wish you the best. 👍🏻
@deucefireman
@deucefireman Жыл бұрын
Your opinion is valued but they are as untamed and wild as it gets. If I cared enough about temperament I would breed for it. But we'rebreeding for quantity of rodents. The biters and chewers are first to go but other then that they are what they are food. Nothing else not even considered a pet just a sustainable food source.

Grabbing the poor rats with the hemostats is wrong. I have a pair of bite proof gloves that I use in my garden. Maybe you could order a pair? How can you do that when you are obviously hurting the animals? My children had pet rats for years and the rats were smarter than our German shepherds.

A great video!! You can grab them with your hand by their tail close to their body (not the end of their tail.) You won't have to use the surgical needle nose pliers, brother. Grabbing with the pliers is painful for them. If they are not used to your hand, you can use that pliers with your other hand to make sure their mouth is not close to your hand holding their tail. It will speed up your cleaning process as well.

That’s why the rats was squeaking really loud and trying to bite the needle tweezers??? But it’s not hurting them. Lmao I been breeding rats for 10 plus years and never needed a tweezer or device to handle the rodent: and for the pine comment! You have no idea what your talking about. Cedar is toxic to the rat not pine.

would u remove newly born babies as well?
@deucefireman
@deucefireman 7 ай бұрын
I only remove newborns if it were a colony of mice. Rodents tend to live a more colony style lifestyle. Long as no new males introduced to the colony the babies tend to grow quite well with both parents. Doesnt allow the female for time off of reproduction. But we swap out older females with newer ones from another Colony tub

I will not be watching your videos because it is sad to see that you take the time and grab those rats out what the tongues and cause them stress and pain instead of just simple grabbing them out by your hands, Adult rats do not carry other adult rats by their scruff so it is completely unnatural for you to be doing that to them and it is uncomfortable for that as well.
