I have two '02 RC51 SP2's..got my first in '05 and just got my 2nd two months ago.... you also want to watch the F1 light. If it flickers the oil pump is going out. That is a sign that the bike has had the shit wheelied out of it. Also look for aftermarket under tails. Hot bodies under tails were popular and required a lot of cutting to install. If it has an aftermarket undertail you may run into issues with the bank angle sensor (shuts the fuel pump off if you crash) if it was relocated. Factory it is located on the plastic panel that extends down toward the swing arm just aft of the rear shock. You should be able to see it from the side of the bike without removing anything. If its somewhere else it may not function properly. Those are VERY hard to come by now. Check the swing arm for areas where the paint has been worn off. Typically there will be visible scuffing along the upper outside edge . That is from either the exhaust hanger or subframe being bent (bike was dropped) and allowing the muffler to contact the swing arm during its travel. You should also not need to pull the idle adjuster out more than 1/8th of inch to start it. If you do then the throttle bodies are in need of some love. Ask me how I know this. I did NO research when I got my first one back in '05. I just wanted an RC51. Its now a donor bike for my second. Now days these bikes are either mint or a trash can. If the listing only has one or two pics and only shows one side of the bike, its probably going to be a trash can or have internal motor issues. Most of, if not all parts are direct from Japan now or you'll need to find a trashed one for spare parts. All that said.. I had a 2017 Aprilia RSV4 RF which is one of the best sounding/looking bikes IMO and it just doesn't compare to the RC51. So if you're looking for one and find one that's not totally trashed.. get it! The RC51 isn't just another motorcycle, it will become a part of the family the second you hear those gear driven cams and feel the ride.

It’s the most fun you’ll ever have riding a motorcycle. RC51 sp1 or sp2 are legendary, Honda made them so inexpensive to buy they allegedly. made no money on them, as a result they are now increasing in value providing of course they’re in original condition.

I got a SP2 for $3,200 and nothing wrong with it. It came with two extra rear ends, extra gas tank, swing arm, side panels, power commander and set of full brakes.

Must be stolen or parts are. Or has a major problem that may not be obvious. They are worth every penny of 7k if okay and even more for the higher power version. California model was seriously choked but the UK model was the only one where full power was let loose.

@@theJACKSON10 the prices I mentioned would be GB pounds. I paid just under 8000 for mine brand new in 2001. Australian model is different to most others as it doesn't have the breathing from the engine sump feed back into the inlet manifold.

I have high mounts on my sp-2 and sometimes I wish I had mid mounts instead. The heels of my foot keeps hitting the pipes

Yea same here and u ain’t wrong...the lower pipes have a better power curve but I don’t care for the look. If I was to do it over I would run a single exit
