I personally find the whole time spent on researching and learning on a German / generic VAG product and fixing / sourcing things yourself quite enjoyable. It is not everyone's cup of tea and will eat your time and often leave you frustrated, but it is baptisation by fire and improves your breadth of knowledge as petrol head like no other brands will. In India, lack of skilled independent garages / DIY culture and delay in sourcing quality parts hamper ownership experience of these cars, worsening their reputation further.

Very nice findings. I have been using a German vehicle for the last 7 years. Bought as a new and still driving the same at 150000 km. As you said the feel is great to drive the car even though it is a bit expensive to maintain the same.

The most irritating part in owning a vw polo is the abs sensor issue. Though I get free replacement of abs sensor under warranty , the real headache is giving the car to the service centre and waiting for 2 days to get it replaced. Whenever the abs warning lights lit up I always wish that all the four sensors be faulty at least during the warranty period so that I can get it all replaced in one single visit otherwise one needs to visit the service centre for each sensor faults

You said it! if you are buying a used car worth Rs. 50L at 15- 20% of price, ensure you are manageable to maintain a 50L priced car. I know many a case where ppl complain abt part cost of Accord /Pajero who bought at 4-6 L - enthusiast- but not had only budget for Mid range hatch segment! Well orated!

Well made video. German cars have their own heritage and characteristics. So do Italian, American and Japanese cars. But sadly in India they don't sell their good cars. In India, most driver's cars readily available are all German. But I hope to see more JDM legends like the Honda Civic Type R here in India. Also as they have said these machines require love and care, it's not something that you fill petrol and drive.

I had a 1st gen Verna, then moved to honda city and then bought an Octavia 1.8 TSI DSG in 2013.That was my 1st European car experience .. Bought an extended warranty package with it.Till 2019 I never had to spend a big amount since most of the things were covered under the warranty. After the extended warranty period I had to replace my headlights and there was some issue in the A/C vents which costed me 60k for that particular service. In 2019 I bought a Vento TSI DSG for my dad. I took the extended warranty (6 years)and a service package for 5 years..The amount I spent for service on vento in these 2 years is literally zero. So yeah if your car is under warranty you will not be spending any amount and once it is over you will. But like they said you won't think of buying anything else once u experience German cars. Planning to sell the Octavia and get the upcoming skoda slavia/ VW sibling next year. I hope sharing my experience will help someone to clear their doubts or those who are hesitant to buy a German car.

I felt that, the clutch of the Jetta was almost over. Dealer and two specialist workshops assured me that,it was still good for another 25k kms. In under 2500 kms, the car was down. Rs 43000 evaporated. Be ready for such casualties. Best way out : Speak to existing owners

Am an owner of w211 E350 avantgarde....happy with it. happy with its maintainence too. we should compare expense like this:- swift cost 7.5 lakh and an E class 75 lakh.. swifts routine service expense falls at 9k . so for e class it should be 90k. but routine service cost for my variant is only around 30k. so actually service cost is less for E class. i know ppl wont agree with this. but those who have passion with german cars and those who know what they drive, they will. and even if we spend huge amount, it will be worthy. the ride quality,handling,safety etc etc.... one more thing,no 1st owner of german cars will cry on its maintainance usually.bcoz they are affordable to spend. what usually happen is, the second owner wont be affordable to spend for genuine spares and he will use some 'adjustments' as well as third party low quality spares. so the subsequent owners will have to suffer.i had a lot of such experiences. so if someone posses a german car be sure to buy atleast oe standard parts and live with peace of mind. ppl usually say there is no problem with japanese cars. thats right there is no issues... just like our old mahindra 'jeep' and ambassador.....no issues...it will run always.....bcoz those vehicles have nothing but a steering and 4 wheels...so no issues...hop u can understand what i meant.
