Hello! I am so glad I found your projects, just got into 3d printing in December 2023 and I want to upgrade my toolhead with this. I was searching for new toolheads and didn't find anything until I came across to this one. Thank you for the great work you do! Multumesc, can't wait to try it out.

I'm mostly excited about your tool-board. I had sketched out the very same idea, but haven't yet designed it. Now you've gone and done most of the hard work for me. I'm building a 3D printer with multiple tool-heads and for simplicity I wanted just one cable (usb-c or similar) running to each tool-head, power included. Would you anticipate me running into any issues with this application, using maybe 5 of your tool-boards on one printer via klipper? I have a mini-pc running klipper/mainsail on debian.

I have not tried that configuration, Max I had is 3 devices connected via usb. In principle this is mainly firmware related, and I think it will work.

Currently working on a solution for part cooling and mounting on an ender 3, and I'm tempted to go Beltender to play with the beta mount.
@orbiterprojects10 ай бұрын
I think that will be a good option. I like how my beltender performs. For the part cooling with SO3 I still have some work to do, its a little too tight.
@rezzerwrecked10 ай бұрын
I've gone the fun route of designing an adaptor plate for the stock Ender 3 backplate using the Beltender version as a template. I've got the first prototype adaptor and mount plates printing right now. Once they're dialed, I'll integrate a cooling solution; right now I'm working on a design using a 4010 radial positioned under the stepper.

Looks very interesting! Is there any experience mounting it to a voron/stealthburner? Cant find any information about it online.... Maybe I should just give it a try 😁
@leeroyjenkins791510 ай бұрын
not natively compatible since the carriage system of voron printers assumes tall and rather flat stack-up of nozzle-hotend-coldend-gears. The SO3 is short and thick.. You would have to rotate the whole SO3 by 90° and place it quite low, thereby probably reducing the X travel significantly. Nonethless, if(!) you would design a gantry that accommodates a lower hanging SO3 with IDEX capabilities, you would get a very nice dual extruder coreXY printer.

The point of the tool board is only to protect the RPi and the Orbiter from a fault? Or is it necessary for the smart functions?
@orbiterprojects10 ай бұрын
The adapter board protects the USB port of the raspberry pi against short circuit to 24V. It is not related to the smart functions of the extruder. Is related to the connection between the toolboard and the raspberry pi via USB port.
@minga857 ай бұрын
hey thanks for the work, the orbiter looks really interesting, I think I'll order the Revo version for my Voron V0. I have an idea for mounting the V3, is it possible to expand the plate between the engine and the main metal frame with another gear wheel to get the engine further up? This way you could mount the motor above the X gantry and wouldn't waste any installation space on existing printers. It would also be better in terms of the center of gravity. I hope my text is understandable. Thanks for the great work,

Are we supposed to put the thermal paste on the thread of the heatbreak that goes in to the heater block? I think the paste you used in the video GD900 is rated to operated at up to 200 degrees Celsius only, though I don't know what would happen if we go above it.
@orbiterprojects10 ай бұрын
It is a must on the heatbreak cold end, I recommend to add paste, however I missed in the video that the paste I was using is not for hotend. You need to use a paste rated minimum 350 deg C. I'm in discussion with LDO to change the supplied paste.

Since the tool board interface is using USB, would it be possible to run a single USB cable from the raspberry pi to a hub which would then connect to the toolboard and also a nozzle camera?
@orbiterprojects9 ай бұрын
not that simple. would require extra USB port and a USB hub to be included on the toolboard.
@offbyfour9 ай бұрын
yes I was thinking that would be a separate pcb, that way the toolboard would not need to change. I was concerned though since cameras have high bandwidth and could interfere with the messages sent to the toolboard

@tinkerman-q9 ай бұрын
Uhhmm I don't think the thermal paste is to be used with the nozzle, just the heat break. The paste will carbonise and make the heat transfer worse. They are not meant to even close to 200 C. It will also make the nozzle stuck to the heat block.
