Soaking Dry Fruits in Rum for Christmas 2022। Taking care of wooden utensils

More Than Simple brings the pricess of soaking dry fruits in rum/ brandy or whiskey is the first and most crucial part of making a flavourful rich super moist fruit cake during yet another festive month of the year.
In this video, I have collected the joyous moments that I enjoy while practising this age-old tradition.
On that very same day I took care of my fairly large collection of wooden cutting boards and tablewares. I liked to share that too with you.
Wooden utensils tips:
1. Using cold water to wash them after each use since hot water will destroy the quality of natural oil that wood contains
2. Since wood is naturally anti microbial, it is preferable not to use detergent unless extremely necessary
3. Using different boards for veg and non-veg items is extremely necessary to avoid cross contamination
4. After chopping non-veg items, scrubbing the board with a piece of lime , salt and baking soda , is recommended
3. Once or twice a year, these should be scrubbed by fine sandpaper ( for smooth surface 400-grit, for rough surface around 220-grit papers) and get a light coating of any food grade mineral oil for wooden boards.
This oil is easily available online.
Yet, if there are not many wooden utensils to be taken care of, light olive oil, coconut oil, or any simple colourless, flavourless edible oil will do the same beautiful work.
কাঠের বাসন ব্যবহারের পর ঠান্ডা জলে ধুয়ে, শুকনো করে মুছে রাখা দরকার।
মাছ-মাংস ও ফল-সব্জীর জন্য আলাদা বোর্ড ব্যবহার করা উচিৎ
কাঠের নিজস্ব একটা রোগ প্রতিরোধ শক্তি আছে তাই অপ্রয়োজনে সাবান ব্যবহার করলে সেটা কাঠের নিজস্ব গুনকে নস্ট করে দেয়
বছরে এক বা দুই বার শিরীষ কাগজ ( 400 বা 220) দিয়ে ভাল করে ঘসে , মিনারেল অয়েল দিয়ে হালকা পালিশ করে নিলেই বছরের পর বছর এরা নতুনের মত থাকে। রান্নাঘরে থাকা কোন রং বা গন্ধহীন তেল দিয়েও একই কাজ হবে।
For Dry Fruits Soaking:
Without getting into any complicated measurements, I just purchased various fruits and peels in 100 gm pack for each .
This year, I have soaked
Glaze cherries
Dried pineapple
Dried grapes green
Dried grapes black
Tutti fruity 4 different colours
Dried plum
Dried kiwi
Dates
Prune
Apricot
Morobba
Candied ginger
Candied orange peels
1 tsp of dried ginger powder
180 ml of Rum
I’ll add almonds in the form of powder later ( when I will actually make the cake after two weeks)
The soaked fruits will be kept in airtight container.
After a regular interval of 2 to 3 days , the container should be shaken upside down so that the fruits of the upper position can be soaked as well .
আমি যে dry fruits গুলো ভিজিয়েছি সেগুলোই ভেজাতে হবে তেমন কোন কথা নেই, কিছু বাদ দেওয়া যায়, অন্য কিছু add করা যায়।
তবে কালো কিসমিস, plum বা খেজুর… এগুলো বাদ দিয়ে এই কেকটার চির পরিচিত স্বাদ আসবে না।
একটা airtight পাত্রে দিন পনের রেখে কেকটা বানাব। ২ দিন বাদে বাদে, পাত্রটা উপর নীচে করে একটু ঝাকিয়ে নেব যাতে ওপরের দিকের fruits গুলোও ভালভাবে ভিজে যায়।
Almond আমি ব্যবহার করব কেক তৈরী করার সময় , গুড়োঁ করে নিয়ে।
