Before he became a game show announcer for such shows like Whew!, Press Your Luck and The Price Is Right (1986-2003), Rod Roddy was the announcer for SOAP. Rod passed away on October 27, 2003 at age 66.

Little known fact: Chuck was originally intended to be Peter Campbell's killer, with Bob taking the stand during Jessica's trial and turning against Chuck, the two of them battling it out on the stand. Would have been comic brilliance to see that. The producers didn't want to lose Chuck and Bob because of their surprising popularity with fans, so the murderer was rewritten to be Chester. Didn't make sense, since they kept Chester despite his having killed someone (explained away by a brain tumor).

Sadly enough Robert's Son Jacques would die of AIDS related Illness. Robert Mandan (Chester) was on the Soap Opera Search for Tomorrow when it was broadcasted on CBS before it went to NBC. He was also Vicky's well meaning but overbearing Father on The Three's Company Spinoff Three's A Crowd.

It's incorrect to say someone 'had died' in this context. You should just say 'Richard died', otherwise it implies it was a temporary condition. You could use it if their character 'had died' since they'd be around to die in other shows, or perhaps during a zombie apocalypse. Nitpicking, I know. Still, it was great to see what happened to everyone, and I'll give it a thumbs up.

There complaints and controversy when it came out. The Moral Majority was in full swing in the '80s. There's this strange idea that everything was freer "back then" (whenever "back then" is for the person), and that's the BS. Stop whining about "PC". If you want to say whatever you want, say it. It WAS freer back then because you didn't have a bunch of crybabies with sticks up their asses waiting to pounce on every word from someone they didn't like. Criticism?
