Some general advice, it HAS to have the degreaser additive. For every gallon of water, use 1 cup of soap. If doing this in a basement or inside the house in some capacity, use the mixture as a barrier. Spray door seals and then close the doors before you spray the hive

Oh, nasty! I only have hanging nests at my place - in my barn and storage - so they're a bit easier to avoid. So far, no stings, so I'll let them be. (I live in the deep countryside - by a forest and cows - so as much as I hate them, wasps are a necessary evil for controlling other pests...) But if they ever become a problem, now I know to bring out the soapy water! ^^

I just got a whole colony underground. Saw hundred or so flying in and out all day after landscaping (removed a couple if surrounding plants). I waited until after dark, mixed hot water (about 180°) with dish soap. First I laid a screen over the area and weighed down each end with a brick, then slowly poured about six quarts of the soapy water directly on and around the area where I saw the bees flying into and out of.

I use soap and water in a spray bottle for a bee killing spray. 4:1 ratio of water to dish detergent, and I add an ounce or two of cleaning ammonia concentrate as an extra kick in the teeth. Cleaning ammonia is ammonia with soap added and is dirt-cheap. Normally you only use a tablespoon or two with water in a spray bottle to create a cleaning/degreasing spray so an ounce or two mixed in is like rocket fuel. It can kill wasps on its own but it's even more effective mixed with dish soap as it also super-charges said soap. In my experience one or two direct sprays will knock a wasp down for the count and it struggles to recover and get airborne again but dies within 30-45 seconds. Large hornets take longer and a few more sprays but it will also get them. In this situation I would've gone out with a spray bottle set to mist and spray the swarming bees with one hand while pouring the soapy water down the nest hole with the hole. Take everything out at once.

The easiest way with an underground nest is wait until the evening and it cools off and they're all back in the nest. Pour a cup of petrol/gas into the hole. Job done, no stings, sorry no excitement and nothing to video. No, don't light it. The vapour fills the nest, and is poisonous to bees/wasps/hornets.
@timweisbrich18443 жыл бұрын
I found that if I pour in the gas and then plug the hole with a rag the fumes really stay in the hole. I do this at night when they are all in there. Works like a charm every time!

@davidcole58032 жыл бұрын
Dish soap, or washing up liquid smothers wasps and insects bodies, their wings stick together, it makes it difficult for them to fly and they generally become immobilised. It's to do with surface tension of the soap solution on their wings, and ultimately they don't breathe and become exhausted. Theres no need to use posion or nasty chemicals. My dad used it on greenfly and they suffocate on the spot.

I was tired of getting stung by these little pest so I did the exact same about a week ago in my front yard except I waited till it got dark and those little stingers were inside, put a 2'x2' piece of screen over the hole and bricks around the outside perimeter to hold the screen down tight. I put in two bottles of Dawn dishing washing liquid, it goes through the screen very easily, just pour it slowly then I added water till it started running out of the hole, about 5 minutes. The next morning bingo, not one yellow jacket to be found.

I was ignoring them flying around me but one of them hit me in the eyebrow so it turned personal and i used can of rustoleum to kill them, blasting them in mid air or as they sat, it was a hunt and murder but i painted them all red-brown color....till they could not fly no mo. Painted all of them suckers!!! those wasps were no longer yellow and black stripes.... just brown ;) no rubber boots or face mask, just tshirt, fabric gloves, hat and long pants.... lots of adrenaline, blood and sweat...well no blood except where it stung me.
