It never even crossed my mind to use that much shea, but boy, that sounds like a very moisturizing bar. Did it suds up? They turned out quite lovely and thank you again for putting some thoughts into my head. Hope you had a fabulous holiday and here is to a spectacular new year.
@SoapSchoolUK5 жыл бұрын
Hiya Renee, It does create a lovely creamy lather but not hugely bubbly due to the high shea butter. I am happy with a creamy lather but some prefer lots of bubbles. As it is a palm free recipe I found it best to freeze the soap for an hour to unmould it as the soaps with palm free are generally softer and can be hard to unmould without freezing although they harden up nicely after a few weeks.

I like using the shea butter as 30% of my oils for certain soap recipes. It's an under rated butter in my opinion. The soap you made is lovely, I'm curious about the lather.
@SoapSchoolUK5 жыл бұрын
I agree it is underrated in soaps. It makes a lovely bar! The lather was not as bubbly but I expected that as shea has a larger amount of unsaponifiables which will push up the amount of free oil and deaden the lather. Feels nice and rich though :)

Thank you Sarah. I have been curious about using high percentage of Shea butter. Could you please share information about the soap’s lather? Thank you.
@SoapSchoolUK5 жыл бұрын
Hi Natasha, as the soap recipe is palm free they are going to softer for a few weeks so the best way to work with them is to freeze the soaps for an hour before unmolding them, this way they are nice and hard. The will harden nicely after a few weeks. The lather is very creamy but not as bubbly as with a regular palm, olive and coconut or coconut only recipe.

@@SoapSchoolUK thank you but my base ingredient will be shea butter so I was asking if I could substiute sweet almond oil for total 250g coconut oil in this recipe?
@SoapSchoolUK4 жыл бұрын
Tamara Jones you can yes however you would need to recalculate the lye amount for the new recipe using a sap calculator as it will be different. Also the coconut gives bubbles to the recipe but adding too much will make the soap dying in the skin. Keep the coconut under 30% ideally
