RetroBlasting Nice job Micheal! Everything you said is EXACTLY the truth. There is NO way to read the manuel unless we know Japanese..Luckily I had a friend in Japan that translated a Bandai Japan, Japan ONLY video (or it seems to be the case when I tried to watch it myself, said "banned in your country") So it really is the truth what you speak. You don't wanna break your toy & nothing is telling you exact motions needed. No one faults you for that. And its not like you reviewed it, step by step, claiming that's how we need to put it together. So no worries my friend. I'm glad you got your favorite TV show & robot character figured out! He really is a beaut isn't he? Brilliant! Especially when everything is locked and ready to fight Robeasts! :)

Hey Michael, really appreciate your reviews. Bobby Skullface had a very similar review where he didn't lock the shoulders or extend the elbows and the comments were exactly the same. Apparently there are quite a few people out there concerned about Voltron's weenis.

See? I always learn something new with each Retroblasting vid. I always just called mine elbows but now I can start calling them my weenis! Its completely understandable Michael, when I spend hundreds of dollars on my imported Japanese collector figure I wouldn't want to force anything. Years ago I bought a diecast Ghost in the Shell minitank with swap out parts on its legs. One of them wouldn't pop out so I gave up on switching them out even though I really preferred the other.

Yeah, um, in the expanding elbow piece, there's actually a second joint, that I believe allows you to avoid needing to extend the lion's head. However, this joint only bends in one direction, so you have to look at it really carefully. Additionally, it's a super tight friction joint, so you will feel like you're going to break something, but it is, in fact, a joint. I discovered all of this by accident. At first, when I got the figure, I was rather upset that the elbows couldn't bend 90 degrees, that seemed like a huge oversight by Bandai to me. Then I somehow figured out that the elbows expanded, and I looked at the new part of the joint carefully, and it looked like it should bend but it was tough to do, so I got scared. Then, I forget how, but I think I looked at it more carefully, and saw that if it could bend, it was only going to bend in one direction, so I tried that, and with effort it worked, and I could get a 90 degree bend at the elbow, which was pretty awesome. This also allowed for dual handing the sword, since the arm could now bend as much as it needed to. It looked like in your images that you needed to extend the neck of the lions to get a little additionally bend from the elbow, in addition to the added length the elbow extension gives. Only reason I mention it. If that's not the case, and you already knew the extending elbow has a super weird joint in it, I apologize. I just know it was hard to figure out for me, and given the nature of the manual, people have a hard time realizing it.

Thanks for the video and I can see the point. Modern Chogokin collectors know to look for the extension joints, just because it is a common Bandai trick (There is also an easier to find one in Voltrons Waist for those that haven't encountered it. It gives a deeper Ab Crunch), but those arms are really poorly shown in the manual, even by normal Robot Otaku standards. I think the only other Voltron toy to have anything like those joints is the Mad Toys/Infinity Gokin King of Beasts (bootleg). The only way most of us Robot Collectors knew about them is someone posted a video of a Bandai designer showing them off at a demo a few weeks back. The shoulder locks are finicky. Mine go in smooth as anything sometimes, other times its like hitting a wall. There is some very specific positioning between the shoulder and torso that I have not quite worked out yet. If anyone does pick up any other newer Die Cast Robots. Always check the Waist, Hips and Feet for extension joints. That's where they normally hide them. Also sometimes rarely something complicated and interesting in the shoulders. Voltron is the first time I have ever seen it in the Elbows.

Your family members were in the RAF in WWII?! MUCH RESPECT. From a sincere admirer of the British vets of WWII. If my salute is even in the smallest way worthy of acknowledging their sacrifice, then it's theirs for this moment.
@mattleuty52857 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much!! It's fascinating to view the War memorial in our village as most of the people on it have family still in the village. There is an old airfield just a three miles up the road and the wooden towers are still there that you can climb up. I live next to Sir Isaac Newtons manor house so there is so much history here in Woolsthorpe by Colsterworth in Lincolnshire. Sad thing is, I was too young at the time to ask my Grandparent questions and they have been gone a long time now and it is only now that I am discovering my heritage. But i will show my Dad your comment as I know he will certainly be chuffed to bits. Thanks. x

I have both my Toynami and GX-71 on display. I don't like playing with the Toynami as much as it doesn't stand as well and takes more to get balanced and set safely. Plus I always feel that the Black Lion Legs feel fragile. I've always been tempted to get another to display in both modes. But I do like the Toynami. It's a great Voltron. Just not as well rounded and fun as the new Bandai. But it is a good solid take on the character. With a nice gorgeous finish. The EX I have no interest in. I hate modern Roided up interpretations of clean classic designs. Too many scribbly pointless panel lines and such. The EX looks like Voltron as drawn by Rob Liefeld. Plus those ball and socket hip joints, who thought THAT was a good idea?
@GarouLady7 жыл бұрын
OMG, Just woke up, saw the word Weenis, and mind went sleepily right into the gutter, thinking Michael was trying to be PG rated, until I looked it up, and then watched the video. LMAO! XD. And $300 bucks for a voltron?? Woah! Totally understand its a collector's piece but I thought you were paying around 100 bucks for that.
@andrewtaylor9407 жыл бұрын
Oh no, it's $300. One of the more expensive Bandai pieces to date. The larger more "collector driven" Gokin pieces can run that (or more) these days. (price out a Fewture Getter robot or a Sen-Ti_Nel or a Bandai DX). But they put every cent of the $300 into the product and it shows. To keep it in perspective the Toynami one that Mike and Melinda like is a few years old, depending on which version you have (they released it for Voltrons 20, 25th and 30th anniversaries, so a lot of use of the molds) has an MSRP of ~$225 usd. The Madtoys bootleg King of Beasts and the Miracle Metals Vehicle Voltron that Mike showed also both had an MSRP of between $225 and $250. So the new SOC is within the ballpark of similarly sized figures. The modern $100 figures are typicaly 6-8" tall. Voltron is a 13" one.

@EPS50007 жыл бұрын
Obviously everyone is entitled to their opinion, and they are free to like whatever they want. But for me, the Toynami Voltron sucks. First of all, instead of connecting the arms via the tails, like in the show, Toynami decided that the red and green lions need to be connected via a newly added penis. Also, instead of flipping down the tails for blue and yellow, they slide inside the body, creating ugly knee caps on Voltron. Overall the Toynami one is a mess.
