Full title reads: "London. Soccer again! With the 'fade out' of cricket, thousands of football fans flock to all matches."
London.
Various shots of a start of the season football match. We get to see a goal being scored. (I think from the shouts of 'Come on the Hammers' that one of the teams is West Ham.) Another goal is scored, pan to show cheering crowd.
(Natural Sound Only - No Commentary).

Thanks to the shouty fella who says "Let's have another one, West Ham" and "Come you you Hammers", it's easy to track this game down using Google. It was played on August 30, 1930 (first game of the new season) and it ended West Ham 2, Huddersfield 1.

@@mdjcsmith I’m aware the term refers to someone who plays in an association; I’m just a little surprised to see it used here, as the word is absolute ANATHEMA to British football fans in 2024.

Finally indisputable evidence that Soccer is a British term for this sport. Fascinating that in all other lands colonised by Anglos, Soccer is NOT the major Football code.

Although 'football' has always been the go-to term, the term 'soccer' was nonetheless widespread in England when I was a kid in the '70s, as it had been throughout the 20th century. But by the '90s it seems to have been elbowed aside and 'football' became the only word used. (Soccer is short for association football, as rugger is short for rugby football.)

My wife (a Londoner) and I (a Texan, not an old bean) had the biggest argument about this last year, during the World Cup. I went to the British News Archive, and found the term used over 1.5 million times since the 19th century, tapering sharply since the 1960's. It is an English term, which has fallen out of favor in Britain, but is still used in Canada, America, Ireland, & Australia.

Note, no racist or nationalist chants; no bigotted remarks; no Homophobia and sexism; no slanderous claims that someone is a paedophile; and at the end of the game, no violence!!!! Football(ism) is now a flawed "sport" that does more harm to society than good. But, like anything, money talks and overpowers reality!
