We loaded up SoccerMom on the Dyno to sort out some fueling and cylinder to cylinder balance and also to see what kind of power she made while running 7s at Sick Week 2024! The car performed great....but she made the Dyno mad for some reason!!

Our tuner uses a hub dyno. Our initial session to get our little altered running right was $1000 and we thought for what they did was well worth it. They probably worked on it for a solid 6 hours all up.

21:30 - Soccer Mom goes ballistic and makes 33662 HP! I think I saw it lapping the moon a few times. Clearly the engine knew the dyno couldn't keep up and went into launch mode. Soccer Mom wins AGAIN! See that's Soccer Mom's nature, a peaceful name, but really it's a relentless man eater. She's more dangerous than a Florida gator!!

At one shop, I saw a guy quickly bolt down stainless to his dyno that he just bathed in glue, back the car onto the dyno over the stainless sprayed with glue and then run/tune. I asked him why he didn't just spray on the tires/rollers and his response was "I only wanna get sticky late a night with my wife, I don't want this shit everywhere" 😂😂😂😂

I would also add to the dyno being a tool. It's a great way to shake down the car to make sure it's safe to run down the track. Oil leaks, lose fuel lines. Also you can see if adding timing or pulling fuel actually make more power, which can help building a safer tune up.

@@kentmackey2717 more like in the 6’s if he wasn’t riding the traction control and still keep the car hooked up. Just as a FYI there are a fair number of Drag and Drive cars in the 3,000 horsepower potential range but most tracks that D&D events go to have pretty meh prep because of the mix of cars/tires (drag radial, slicks, street tires) and that mix of rubber and glue can get slimy especially when hot.

The dyno freaking out could be a sync problem or a vibration problem. So maybe check the wiring and the position / isolation of the dyno PC. Cleetus managed crashing the PC on his dyno because the trolley was standing too close to the car... 😁😁✌✌

Time 900 Dyno types simplified. Software on either example can mix things up so take that into account. Acceleration Dyno ( Dyno Jet drum type like the KSR unit for example ) An acceleration dyno mimics actual driving. This is where low inertia components show a power improvement because the dyno measures work over time then back calculates torque. Loading Dyno. ( Can be chassis or engine , Mustang for example using an eddy current brake , water brake ) Say you are building a tractor puller or truck pulling a trailer. A loading dyno is what you want to use since it acts like pulling a trailer up a hill at more or less a steady state. These dynos directly measure torque then calculate HP. Low inertia components won't show any gain here though software might be able to see this from run to run. Regardless of the type, numbers really don't matter as long as the dyno is consistent from run to run.
