I remember watching this as a kid. It was way past my bed time, but the noise in suburban Sydney when Aloisi put that penalty away will stay with me for the rest of my life. It's the only time I've ever heard roars coming from every house within earshot and probably the only time I ever will.

It's always been the sleeping giant in this country. The giant started to stir after this win. If it weren't for the constant political bullshit surrounding the game in Australia (still lurks around today), football would've taken over as the country's national sport a long time ago.

I’ve experienced 2 sporting moments in my life that still to this day bring me to tears. 1 - This World Cup qualifier 2 - Greece winning euro 2004 I was at this match, and felt the country was not only behind the players, but the fans - who I can only describe as being outside of themselves, a kind of delirium that only a match of such significance could stir. I’ve not experienced this since. I hope to do so with my son, one day. The post-match celebrations were equally joyful, dancing in the streets, hugging strangers, and sharing that unrelenting love for your country!

Lost my mind the evening this went down. Watching with good mates and family in Brisbane with hundreds around us. One of the best if not the best highlight of my football fan life.

I was there..front row just inside the half way. Closest to the shootout. Good times.
