In the run up to this summer’s Olympics and Paralympics, and a forthcoming review of British racing’s welfare strategy, an invited panel debate findings of a new public opinion survey commissioned by World Horse Welfare. We expanded on previous years’ findings and consider the ever-changing landscape of public discourse around the involvement of horses in sport.
The panel consisted of:
Lucy Higginson (Chair), journalist and editor
Johan Fyrberg, Secretary General, Swedish Equestrian Federation
Gemma Pearson MRCVS, Director of Behaviour, The Horse Trust and lecturer in equine behaviour at The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, Edinburgh
Nick Luck, broadcaster and writer
Tina and Isabelle Cook, mother and daughter eventers. Tina is a former European champion and three-times Olympic medallist, and Isabelle is a gold and silver medallist at Junior European level
