join societies as a member at the freshers fair and then see if there are applications to join the committee the following term (committees tend to change every term!)

Yer I feel people didn't really want to know me much because they saw my skin colour and made up assumptions. At one place I went to in the Uni town there was this distance that went on for years. And when a white person came along they'll suddenly put more effort in. I felt very hurt and upset about it for a long time.

At first, thanks for the video very much! It really helped me.❤️ If I think of College, I think of one of the best, funniest times in life. I love making friends and socializing, going out together and explore the town. Clubbing might be fun too.I don’t know. I don’t want to study a whole year, only to be one of the best of the best. A middle thing is absolutely enough, but I still don’t want to be at the bottom. I hope that I could find a path job at College. No clue why. I love Metaphysics, Quantumphysics, English Literature and reading but hate Language ( only like English) and Chemistry. Technology isn’t really mine too. I would study very hard for stuff I love because they make fun and I would enjoy it but I wouldn’t want not to socialize. I think that I would get depressed by this...😅 But I would still like to study at one of the top 20 universities and I am absolutely willing to do hard work for it. Do you think, Oxford would fit to me? Sry for the grammar. I am a middle school student from Germany. It is going to improve.😂 Maybe I wrote to much? Thx for answering tho if you are answering!❤️ Ps.: I am not one of the people who set very high goals in their life, want to be rich, successful or well known. I just want to do things I love, spend time with loved ones, have a cozy home and enough time for traveling and reading books. Studying will never really be my highest priority. Okay, when I really love it it would be a highly priority but I would never neglect my social life for more than some month’s to study. If I am working I would I guess.🍪

Totally related to the social part... Chinese here as well. Some white gals are completely uninterested in talking to me. But why would I need to care about them!!

But who do you do the same to? Perhaps East Africans, Southeast “jungle” Asians? My Chinese and Taiwanese friends admitted to that shortcoming even though they were heavily invested in the Panasian cultural identity. You want your white peers to affirm your value because you are unsure of yourself. The traits and skills you possess may not fully align with your context and because you are used to excelling, you feel anxiety. I went to a nondenominational international church of 800 at one point which also turned out to be 97% Korean. I was in the 3%. These people found their group and their own little friend group within it. I was an outsider among the outsiders. (They could make the stone walls of the old Methodist church vibrate when they sang though.) Being an outsider has a ton of advantages that should not be discounted.

yes, for sure!!! i made friends with the majority of my tutorial partners (i.e. actually did things together outside of tutorials) xx

Feel your pain being a course 2 latin person and I haven’t even got there yet 😂 most of the course 2 people across the year seem to have chosen Greek....

You clicked with people only one year above you? I found people my age quite dull; professors were much more interesting though the field of discussion is generally too narrow. After university, I found that I got along best with passionate, knowledgeable people 30 to 60 years older and even then it’s hit or miss. My closest “peer” friends are a minimum of 10-15 years older and I’ll only have one at a time. Finding people that can discuss a wide range of topics with moderate to high detail is really hard especially in non-academic environments.
