Social media has given a platform for “experts” to say things on line they’d never say to someone’s face. Everyone becomes an expert, or a tough guy, on the internet.

Sometimes the "backlash" that some people give out is just down right HILARIOUS and to be ignored!! Thank you Mr. Hickok for just being you! Love all your channels because you always speak the truth as you see it!! And you are usually right!!!

Sir, you hit the nail on the head!!!!! I feel exactly the same!!!! We cannot, will not accept someone’s opinion. We feel that everything is a personal attack, and social media is the culprit!!!

This was back when the internet was relatively young, although I was already a dinosaur. At a social event after work, I and a friend got involved with a fairly one sided argument with a, what would now be known as a snowflake. The snowflake was going on and on about how dangerous guns are and blab, blab, blab. I told him that I have an opinion about the subject that was colored by the fact that I grew up in a country with a totalitarian government and where only the government and the criminals had guns and everybody else was classified as a victim. My friend was just bored with the subject and just wanted to leave. I finally told snowflake that if he didn't like me and my opinion, then he can unfriend me on facebook. Snowflake just yelled in my face that he will unfriend me on facebook. As we were leaving, my friend asked me with a puzzled look, "Since when did you get on facebook?" I told him that I wasn't on facebook. He just laughed and said that the poor schmuck will go crazy trying to find me on a social platform that I wasn't on. Sometimes, it pays to not play these social media games.

Be real. Be you. If it's conflicted, combat it. Stand your ground. Speak your mind. Telling truth and lies will both grant you "backlash". Can you sleep at night? Do you have peace of mind? Lies will be vetted. Truth will be seen. Life is good

Yup. Differing opinions are the foundation of growth as long as one is open to listening to the other perspective and willing to grow when presented new facts. That too defines science. Objective analysis with all senses fosters a well rounded education. We seek diversity in our diets, our firearms, our activities, our friends etc. Life would be quite boring without it.

Simply because someone speaks with authority doesn't make them an authority. I've never had cable or satellite. Since the inception of those two media forms, it has become apparent to me that they aren't worth the price for any channel on them. In the 70s, I can remember when my friends were saying it was commercial free and only 15.00 a month. My response then was, "just wait". Now I have friends paying 200.00 a month and they never seem to understand why they're always mad about life. They fail to see that someone is pissing on their leg and telling them, "it's raining."

The gossipers and click-baiters need to get their own real life. The mainstream media is trusted less nowadays and they are losing followers. We are seeing, I believe, a swing back to sensible. Thank goodness for the internet, free speech, and honest, down-to-earth folks like Hickok45 who say it like it is. Best wishes from New Zealand.

Social media is *extremely* influential because critical thinking is dying. Used to be, critical thinking was crucial to survival. Later it was taught in schools; these days, not so much. Forming an opinion takes work, and many people today would rather have their opinions spoon fed to them. Social media does that very elegantly, even with much of it being social egineering.
