Social media has become such a big part of everybody's lives. It is definitely not an exception in Korea. But some things might be different culturally on how Koreans use social media in terms of dating and socializing, using filters, etc.
In this episode we have Dan Kim, Ramyun and Chill participant, and social media manager/specialist, talking about the Korean social media scene with celebrities and influencers. We also have David, Anna, and Freya talk about their personal experiences using social media in Korea as KZbinrs/Influencers.

Dan: Hi, Dan Kim here. I’ve been reading quite a bit of spiteful comments towards my friend Freya (Jiwon) that I’d like to address. We are on great terms and I was not offended in any way by any of her comments directed to me during episode 2 of our podcast. Hope this doesn’t continue to be taken the wrong way, and please let’s all be considerate as some of these comments I’ve read can be very hurtful. Positive vibes only!! Much love, Dan

I think KoreanPizzaClub is missing a growth opportunity here. When something is presented for public consumption, it is about more than how the panelists react to it. It is also how the audience reacts to it. David should come out and say "whoops, this didn't come across as we intended. Thank you for the feedback. We will do better." I'm not excusing hurtful responses. I agree that that is wrong. But Dan, I think if the show had first modeled "positive vibes only" there would be fewer hurtful responses. Thank you for giving me the chance to express my viewpoint.

Congrats, David! Another great episode in the bag. I’m really loving the laid back vibe of this podcast. The dynamic between the guests have all been *chefs kiss* so far. It’s unfortunate that Anna isn’t an offical co-host. Both she and David make such a good duo! David as the seasoned facilitator creating the space to have these conversations, and Anna for keeping the energy up and the conversations free flowing. I’d love to see soobeanie back on in future episodes. She was such a breath of fresh air.

Another excellent episode! David, you really do a great job of being host and facilitator, it’s a much harder job than it looks so I applaud you for that. 👏🏻 Also, I will say that I loved the guests in this episode!! Dan brings a wild card element where you never know what to expect from him which makes it all the more fun to hear him talk, Anna has natural charisma and personality and you know it will never be boring with her on it (she was much quieter in the first episode so it was nice to see her talk more in this one), and Freya was very insightful and I found myself agreeing with her on a lot of points about social media. Everyone brought something to the table and it was well balanced out.

Loved the discussion! Agreed with Freya around always being cautious about what you see and consume on social media. Everyone (influencers, creators, or not) are only posting the things they want others to see. Posts that are sponsored please also take what the creator/influencer say with a grain of salt. They’re getting paid to talk about those products so you can’t 100% be certain if what they are saying is genuine or not. I loved Freya’s perspective and enjoyed how she mentioned that her first lesson when doing teachings is to be a conscious creator. Hope to see her in other episodes in the future. ☺️

Very good discussion! I would say I'm more in the middle seeing that social media works as a double-edged sword. Its great for getting you and what you represent out there to the world but also takes away a bit of you as well. As an artist and for the sake of keeping my creativity, I had decided to delete all my social media accounts which were mostly IG, FB, Twitter, and Discord. It's been very freeing and I feel that my mind is able to create peacefully without the heavy burden of comparison to other big artists. I feel ppl should do what works for them in this digital space and age 😊.

I consider myself lucky that I have a carefree attitude with social media, specifically Instagram (I think it's because I'm older and followers/metrics were not a part of life when I was younger). One of the great things about Instagram was all the friends that I've made from it. I'm a photographer as well so that might have helped but the app was instrumental in me actually being "social".

I've enjoyed the topics, two episodes in and look forward to what's to come. For me, I think if you can listen to a show while doing other things and still follow the topic then it's a credit to the host/show. Due to the time difference, I watch/listen a few hours after the live. About 3 years ago the algorithm led me to DKDKTV on KZbin bc of BTS, but I was also intrigued bc Danny and David were speaking about housing in Korea. I liked the range of topics and style and subscribed. Same for KPC. I think the initial idea of social media was to link people around the world and instantly. We know now that It grew without rules or checks & balances in place. Some good, some bad and unfortunately some dark/seedy (defined by individual preference, maybe) and you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube, as the expression goes. 🐦 the blue check was some sort of balance until its current owner blew that process up without forethought and I wonder if it was just for attn? Perhaps gaslighting? Annoying and exhausting. Influencers: I see the lure, but after a while it gets tiring bc they are chasing trends and putting their spin, if they're good, on it. We've seen some who get contracts with major brands, but bc they aren't trained they make a big faux pas and can't deal with the aftermath. They either lash out, make half hearted statements of contrition bc they learned a lesson OR bc they see how their human nature affected their money. They shut down their social media for a bit, not a while, let things cool off then go back on. They miss the attn or money or both. What I've noticed is that some American tik tokers may start off doing trends, but the good ones find their voice and become storytellers. The ones in their 20s live the life travelling, buying houses and expensive toys. When this is over, I hope they realize that money doesn't come this easy and they saved their money or invested it. The Kdash family were mentioned. An observation: they are a promotion machine. Until very recently their name was not associated with charity. It took a long time for that to happen. Do they have a family foundation and the public doesn't know about it? It's not like Elton John, etc. who has an annual fundraiser to raise money for charity. Before they signed a deal with a streaming service (ca-ching), what "were" they saying? What "are" they saying? They just make more money. Side note: Stopped watching that show a long time ago bc when you pay attn, there are so many outfit changes over so many days and edited together to make an episode. So many commercial breaks and a repeat of what happened before the commercial. Again, what do they have to say? They trend bc of snapshots of what they wear, who they hang out with, where they hang out, their family parties, the issues between their current life partners, etc. Some people with platforms realize they can make a difference whether to inform a viewer/listener of something they were unaware of, promote a cause....something to help someone/population or an organization that helps others in need. I guess who you follow on social media comes down to what you, the viewer/listener wants out of it. The creators who walk away or the one who listens/watches/subscribes make the choice on where they are at in their lives and possibly by how much real or fluff they want in it.

Freya, is so correct with being cautious! I’ve watched so many people manipulate others by editing content to suit a narrative. (Not surprised as money is on offer) I’m not surprised by it but I know many people who truly believe what they are watching and don’t know they are being manipulated and that it can be harmful. Freya is trying to be a professional and ethical with her platform but still acknowledges it can be difficult to maintain a good balance.

I personally have mixed feelings about social media. It’s a great way to connect with people, but there’s also a lot of toxicity & negativity to it. I’ve definitely had a lot of FOMO cuz of social media, so I try to take breaks sometimes. I’ve compared myself to others too, so I have to remind myself we all have different lives. I feel like it’s easy for us all to get a warped perception of each other since we only see snippets of each others lives.

I don’t understand the hate Dan gets. Since the dating show and now during this episode, people are naturally rude to him which is so annoying and out of place. There is a fine line between being rude and being straightforward, guy just fuckn breathing and you have to comment on that?? I mean what did they do to you? That girl who claims to be “positive” influencer should really reflect on her actions, she needs a wake up call

This was quite interesting, funny that i only stumbled upon it today... Freya's little roasting (or should i say banter?) with Dan made it even more enjoyable. And i really like her stance on SNS! Social Media is a paradise for the anonymous, fakers and posers, so don't think of everthing that gets posted as the real deal or even norm. Have a good amount of doubt and question whatever you see before believing things. I'd also chime in on the "be yourself, don't fake something for the purpose of gaining followers" comment. I've been on this bandwagon (doing my own thing, disregarding trends) for...forever? Basically from when i opened my account in 2009. Actually got told by an analyst/trainer 'If you want more people to see your content, there are certain rules to obey to, like in naming clips and such.' My answer was 'I really don't give a fuck about that; i upload what i find interesting or funny and worthy to share, so maybe others will enjoy it, too. If not...so be it. But i'm not gonna bend or kowtow to these rules or any algorythm.' - so props to her for mentioning this.

Please invite Juwonee (Ju Won Kim) on your show. If i am not mistaken, she is part of your staff/team in dkdktv. She is also a youtuber and tiktoker. She grew up in the Philippines so maybe she can share a different culture and perspective on topics, which is my understanding of what Korean Pizza Club is. Hehe

I appreciate the comment she made to not blindly trust anything on social media. I would extend that to treat ALL media, including the mainstream media with a high degree of skepticism.

Very interesting. 🤩 My guest suggestions, former idol trainees: Rilacoco, Gina everywhere, Jessica Lee would be great guests if they have time to come.

Hello guys, love the topics that are being covered. I'd like to request one too. Please make a video on beauty procedures in South Korea and what are your thoughts about it? Why does appearance matter so much in your country?

Congratulations David on your channel. Enjoying the content. Keep it up! Btw, as someone born and raised in Hawaii, pineapple on pizza does not make it a Hawaiian pizza. Lol.

😍 the topic for today. I'm only addicted to KZbin, but I have to use it for work, school, etc.. Ex) TED talk, health & fitness, public health topics.

Good episode too. Allow me to suggest a future topic: people with disabilities and their opportunities in the Korean society - support, education, job opportunities, dating, mobility facilities... thanks and keep up the good work!😊😊😊 Love from Portugal 🇵🇹

Hi there, I was wondering if you guys could cover work culture in Korea vs the west? Like traditional office jobs, or anything else. What are some issues, or things you think western cultures could benefit from? Love you guys, always love hearing your take on things.

I really like this show! I’m Japanese living overseas. I found this show through Anna’s channel. It’s really interesting to get to know all the controversial topics in the point of English speaking Korean people’s eyes! I wish any Japanese producers would make this kind of show! Love

…. and what I really dislike is when content creators are trying to not copy what’s already out their and maintain their dignity but they don’t get as much likes/success as those that over expose their relationships or their bodies.

TikTok is extremely popular in the US. I heard someone say that TikTok creates a community - there are rivalries, shit talking but there are great aspects as well. Crimes have been solved just by people sharing info on TikTok. The government is trying to an TikTok but it’ll be a hard sell for the general US public because free speech, free media, is very much a right.

I agree it's popular. I was shocked with their take on it because everyone and their mama loves it. There's something for everyone. Its so informative, and plus super entertaining. You'll even find elderly people cooking or showing their ootd. Current events, hobbies, education, hilarious people..... literally anything.

Even after hearing Anna say on her channel that it was all in good fun, Freya's comments to Dan are uncomfortably harsh. If you were going for humor, dial it waay waay back. Ouch.

the whole MBTI dependencies is getting out of hand if you ask me. We have billions of people on this planet and we're so caught up in boxing people into this 16 labels. Isn't that wild?

I am loving KPC! I am feeling old (but maybe lucky?) because I started dating my husband in 2006 and we totally missed the whole social media dating 😂. I DM people on Instagram sometimes when I just really enjoy their story. Do people do this?! Can you tell them difference?! 😂😂😂 either way, I'm laughing about it.
