Why make such a big deal about a raise in social security when Medicare always goes up more than the raise in social security. Sounds more like we can always expect a cut every year in our social security check. Seems like someone needs a lot more instruction in arithmetic .

The 2.5% COLA for 2025 provides a modest increase in benefits for Americans receiving Social Security and SSI payments, helping to offset the rising cost of living and inflation. This increase offers essential financial relief for vulnerable populations like retirees.

The thought of retirement makes me cry. My apologies to everyone who have retired and filing social security during this time after putting in all those years of work just to lose everything to a problem you never imagined to happen. It’s so difficult for people who are retired and have no savings to fall back on.

True, It has never been easier to understand how to build your money after retirement than it is right now with the inflation, when you may study and experience a completely variegated market passively by employing a successful portfolio-advisor. The impacts of the U.S. dollar's gain or fall on investments, in my opinion, are complex.
@joshbarney114

I completely agree; I am in my mid 40s, approaching retirement, and have approximately over 2million dollars in external retirement funds. I am debt free and have very little money in retirement funds compared to the total value of my portfolio over the past three years. To be honest, the Fin-advisor can only be neglected, not rejected. Just do your due diligence to identify a fiduciary one.

Suggesting to seniors that they build alternate sources of income when they only have social security and they are past 67 with no chance of getting meaningful work is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. How do you build other income streams when you have no extra cash or ways of getting cash?

There are infinite ways to earn an honest income. Me for instance, Im 72 and am self employed cleaning vacation rentals and cleaning homes on the market for realtors. As for non-physical labor, Ive hit yard sales for resale on Ebay. Also picked up unwanted contents from homes that were going up for sale. Once I came across a couple of Louis the XVI cognac that I almost tossed until I learned from a search that tho the bottles were valuable, those full ones were worth 1200 each. i believe in actively taking control of generating an income, but if a person is truly physically or mentally disabled from doing anything then they should be considered for a higher monthly amount of SS.

Right it’s very easy for people to say keep working if they had a low impact non physical job. Working outdoors 12 months a year with high temperatures and freezing your ass off in a northeast winter. Those people will never know the toll it takes on a persons body and when our age increases it’s almost impossible.

This is a bad joke, insurance always eats up the majority of the COLA. The COLA won't cover 1/3 of the homeowners insurance increase. It won't even cover the car insurance increase. The COLA yields a considerable reduction in the lifestyle for seniors. This has been the case for decades, and many seniors no longer have "disposable" income. This is an insult.

It is time for universal basic income for all.If everyone has money coming monthly it would drop crime dramatically. People steal because they have no money and no basic way to earn it is probably cheaper in the long run to give a basic income to everyone rather than taking people to court for stealing the expenses are enormous. You never hear the old saying, stitch in time saves nine!

It’s not a real increase it’s only cover up on paper to cover decrease on another. Evelyn when you get a raise per hour each year then they increase medical insurance higher than hourly increase in your wages. Then medical insurances are going on and on every few months about their billion dollars in profits That is where they can save American some money. Shave off some of the billions on increases so we clean try to live again.
