She used black so well in this...I'm always to afraid to use it with watercolor.....unless that was a really dark blue. o.O anyways, beautiful

I am from the Chinese background. I love the contrast of 100 % black to have the contrast with the transparency of the beautiful watercolor. Therefore I always tried to have the Black especially making the transparent watercolors to jump out even more. I disagreed with Charles Reid's paleness, with no contrast, using no black color approach to the watercolor painting. His painting always looked pale to me. That is my Chinese background speaking. +Arc Kocsog maybe it's because she doesn't put too much detail in the overall face? Like she has a lot of details in major regions like the eyes and lips but the rest of the face is usually based off the shadows she creates with the watercolors

+Arc Kocsog I don't know what you saw of her pieces but not all the girls she draws are similar!! am a big fan of her pieces and I saw a lot of her paintings so I think criticizing without searching first is so unprofessional! search her name and see yourself what am talking about!

+katiesoatmeal +Arc Kocsog she said in a KZbin comment before that she uses herself as the model for most of her works (only changing slight things such as the eyes, hair, etc). So they are similar, as in they're all self portraits in a way and from a stylistic pov. Tbh it is slightly confining, but I thinks its rather romantic and enhances her oeuvre. It's like a visual biography of her inner thoughts, emotions, and experiences.

Using the un-painted whiteness of the white paper has also my way to have speed, life sized portrait painting ! Watercolor itself is so artistic. I did not need to do much and got the artistic look I wanted. On the other hand, oil painting takes forever to paint, forever to dry, usually too overworked is a result I did not care for. Watercolor is a contemporary technic which belongs to after the 20th century. Most people cannot afford to pay for the price of oil painting. There are not enough Popes around to finance an artist any more. The artists have to find a new way to feed his mouth ! George Wu, ARCHITECT, AIA, NCARB 2018-5-22

watercolor paintings are sooooooooo hard to do!! way harder than most others in my opinion (at least for me) because you need like a thousand layers so you put a color completely off down so it looks right in the end and the colors dry in such a different shade I'm struggling so badly with watercolors sigh
