I think your videos are superb - they answer exactly what students ask, thank you for your time and energy.

Thank you so much this was extremely useful! Could you also make a video on how to develop material/ interpret it and link it back to the question (without it sounding too basic and repetitive using all the time the question words) for A02. It would be super super helpful

That sounds like a good video. Let me put something together as I have been working on this with my students.

In the better written essay, there is a repeat in the point 'socialising members into accepting hierarchy in an ideological way'? Is that the aim or is there a way to avoid repetition? Thanks for the video.
@TheTEACHERSOCIOLOGY6 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you for that excellent question. I did repeat the point in the first part of the paragraph (Green font) and then again in the second evaluation part (yellow font) to make it obvious that the evaluation is specifically linked/applied rather than bolted on. I would suggest that better students will be more sophisticated that this. For the sake of this video yes that was the aim as it was the 'connection' that joins the evaluation to the point. Hope that makes sense! :-)

Miss can an evaluation be a supporting argument rather than a criticism? Such as a sociologist supporting an argument or another sociologist's argument through evidence of their own.
@TheTEACHERSOCIOLOGY2 жыл бұрын
You would get AO3 for that certainly. It can be a strength for positive evaluation. If another is supporting the idea it would be more analysis (linking points together) . Well done 👍 if you do this

Hi what words do we use instead of however and are you basically telling us to expand on criticism?
@TheTEACHERSOCIOLOGY6 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you for the comment. Other words could be: 'on the other hand', 'in contrast', 'furthermore', 'to criticise', 'in evaluation'. Try to be explicit or as obvious as you can. For a second year student doing 30 mark questions, I would try to go beyond one or two sentences evaluation, instead explain and refer back to the debate in the question. Sometimes I tell my students to try to 'double whammy' the evaluation. :-)

Very helpful- would you be able to go through essay technique in more detail in a future video?
@TheTEACHERSOCIOLOGY6 жыл бұрын
Yes, a breakdown of essay. Paragraph structure is that what you want? :-)

TheTEACHERSOCIOLOGY Yes that would be great.

What if we are criticising one sociologists argument woth another sociologist point of view? Is that considered juxtaposition? Thank you
@TheTEACHERSOCIOLOGY3 жыл бұрын
If your sociologist is offering a criticism, that is ok. However, if you are just using another sociologist and saying they believe in something different (and not actually criticising) then that would be juxtaposition. :-)

@@TheTEACHERSOCIOLOGY oh okay... But say im writing an essay on secularisation and i need to provide evidence that supports the secularisation thesis... Is it considered juxtaposition if i put decline in church attendance and then the next paragraph (without linking the two together) i discuss the rationalisation theory ?
@TheTEACHERSOCIOLOGY3 жыл бұрын
@@minecraft-ib8yd I would suggest rationalistation is Linked to decline in church attendance, so show how one has caused the other would be logical.
