This video did very well at looking at the comparisons between the mechanics, weapons and story of Monster Hunter and Wild Hearts. I wholeheartedly agree that both MH and WH are good in their own ways and that WH should not be looked upon as a monster hunter clone but as its own thing. It makes me upset to see this game get so much dislike due to how it's release was. Even though I have not been able to play Wild Hearts yet your video showed me that even with the hate it is getting I should keep strong and look forwards to play it one day. Thanks for Amazing video as always JFJ.

I still play this lol. Over 200 hours on my first playthrough on steam, playing it on Xbox now. What can I say, the aesthetic made me fall in love. I mean come on, Hamauzu from FF13 worked on this… I just wish it was better in the performance front so it could work on the steam deck. MH rise works amazingly on the machine, I wish I could experience this game on the go too. Edit: I’m so salty they never made the celestial being fight repeatable in the same save like the other boss hunts…

From an outsider perspective, I think this game's story can be easily summarized. The game is hot, and also on fire. In slightly more detail, what I've heard of the mechanics sound like a good dense and mobile alternative to Monster Hunter, but it is a darn shame that it shipped in the state it did. Considering that EA published it, the chances of it being pushed out the door too early are fairly large.

I greatly dissagree on your weapon analysis to be frank. Weapons always have different playstyles that are viable contrary to what you assume. CB doesn't "just have the UAED has its only bread and butter" you can perfectly play a discharge less sawblade combo based charge blade and do great if not better based on matchups, UAED is prefered on monsters with big hitboxes or bad hitzones. IG is extremely rewarding to play and offers many playstyles, i don't get your point of "relying too much on the kinsect" considering its quite literally half of the weapon and its very underused. Your main weapon will always be the glaive while the bug is only used sporadically outside of meme builds, though said meme builds still have usage and versatility like the kinsect vortex playstyle (which is objectively the only kinsect centric playstyle) So on so forth.

I've played monster hunter before I used alot of gunlance and I saw wild hearts a while back and thought it looked interesting but the price seemed so much at the time. But when I finally played the trail for it was only the first 3 kemono sure but it was so much fun I struggled at first with the katakuri but damn once I had it down it became so fun even after the first 3 I was able to explore and learn and that was so much fun and I've decided "Yeah this game is pretty fun I'm gonna buy" I hope your video can convince more people J cause damn this is fun. You made some excellent points regarding weapon movesets in Monster Hunter, it's quite lame for multiple weapon types to be boiled down to pulling off the same combo over and over. I hope Capcom switches it up a little and makes all potential combos viable in terms of overall DPS.

Wild hearts is a weird game for me. On one hand I agree with JFJ that Wild Hearts is a really good game and is by no means that it’s a Monster Hunter clone. However I do believe that the game has a lot of room for improvement. For starters the story. As much as I love the bromance, everything else in the story falls flat. Most of the characters are either really bland and one sided with very monotone dialogue to follow with them or the story just isn’t that interesting. I think the biggest crime the game did is kill off the bear in the first half of the game (or at the very least imply it). There was so much potential to use this monster as a continuous threat that you have to pay attention and deal with and every time you fight it either grows stronger or is rocky shell slowly falls apart, showing off an even creepier monstrosity inside. I know I’m basically talking about Shara Ishvalda but come on that would be neat. And out of every monster on the roster the weakest one in my opinion would be the porcupine. With every other monster you hunt each one has a very unique and otherworldly design to them where even if you can identify what creature they’re based off they at least look very alien. Porcupine is basically a porcupine with some crystals on his back. Hell even his enraged form doesn’t change at all. I would go into details about my opinions on the weapons but at this point I’m creating a written report at this point. I’ll probably do a separate comment if anyone is really interested.

monster hunter wins because it has lance, fair points tho j. frankly, i feel like the game just has a stigma because monster hunter fans are rather attached to their ip, and when someone tries to make a competitor they try to shut it down. even if rise was... rather disappointing (sunbreak fixed most of it, but the endgame is dogshit), a lot of players simply won't try something new, failing to realize that competition breeds innovation. i will say, though, wild hearts' horrendous optimization for pc is probably the biggest offender why people dislike the game.

There are a lot of good points made here, but the only thing is its performance is completely unexcusable, so I'm still disappointed a game I'm so attracted to is almost unbearable with the constant frame drops. They caused me irreparable trust issues and made me feel bad because I didn’t want to leave them. But then again, I do miss those times when we were just friends and he wanted to be something more but I didn’t. So he lied about being a girl and I trusted so heavily. I hope you find some clarity soon and happiness to let go. Very well put together video. I agree with some (maybe most) of your points, but the story of both games is pretty mediocre. I love both, but at least I can actually play MH. Wild hearts is legitimately unplayable for me as of the March 27th update, and it wasn't that way previously. I dealt with slowmo stuff and glitchy Karakuri, but I've never had frame rate, or playability issues with a monster hunter game. So for the sheer fact of how buggy Wildhearts is, I'd personally, politely, disagree with your opinion of this game.

Great video, I respect it, although I don't share a lot of what was said. I found it weird to see a channel I discovered through MH vids sell the weapons, gameplay and world of MH so short, because even after playing Wild Hearts for almost 120h, and liking most of it I just don't see how some of the points given to WH were even a debate. Great job on the video! And the story part was stellar btw.

I respect your dedication to promoting this game, but no amount of decent story telling is gonna make me and a lot of people give EA the benefit of the doubt. I hold no opinion on Koei Tecmo as a developer, but i can see why the game is so liked by you, that does not change decades of scummy sales tactics and stripped down and unfinished products being shoved in customers faces with full AAA pricing. If the game was self-published by Koei just like Nioh? Maybe then it would be worth considering, but if EA published, funded, and supported the project, what does it say when a game they had their hands on comes out with inexcusible performance issues when Nioh as far as i am aware had none of them? Because to me it means publisher input brought negative results into the game due to meddling.

Just because you hunt giant monsters and use their remains to make your weapons and armor doesn't make it monster hunter, if this argument is what you use then I can say the same for dauntless and many other monster killing games, if anything wild hearts looks more inspired by monster hunter, I may not play wild heart but I know for a fact how unique it is from monster hunter, hell Jfj played monster hunter so if he says a game isn't the same as another game that he has played then that alone should be proof enough.

Games should be allowed to be similar to others so long as they add enough to make it so they're not a straight rip off which, from what I've seen, wild hearts definitely does. Now this all sounds well and good, I should definitely try wildhearts soon, I'm more of a "oh boy, two cakes" kind of guy. The only smidge of contentment i could put fourth is story. I won't say WH doesn't sound like a banger, just from your cliffnotes, it's a poignant and dramatic story. I just think MH couldn't even begin to compete in that area, because the undertone of irreverence and thrill is integral to its identity, even when facing ecological collapse because another ancient dragon woke up. I could never imagine them getting as serious. Although I have seen them try.

And hearing him describe the broken shogun and the small bit he said at then of the video. Really, hit me in the feels. Never stop being you brother.

18:36 what armor set is that also as someone who has maxed out characters in every mh except the first and frontier wild hearts genuinely seems like a game I should give a shot

I don't care that it's MH clone, what pisses me off it how badly optimized it is.

My first exposure to the Monster Hunting genre was Dauntless... yeah. So, Wild Hearts absolutely blew my mind. Once I am done here, I will try out that Monster Hunter everyone loves talking about.

When you get to MH, don’t use the free defender armor they give you: it’s intended for new characters to use to get to the dlc content faster and makes the early game way easier.

I actually enjoy dauntless for what it is a nice free to play entry to the MH genre and also like the way everyone can just pop in and hunt together

After all the monster hunter and monster hunter clones that I have played, nothing will every beat the feelings that I had for God Eater 1's cast and story. Seeing the scene in the video where the character comes face to face with the creature that has killed his teammates triggered so many flashbacks from GE.

While I do agree that MH experience would be better with having a story built around Bro experience, I think the game already does that by playing with friends/random. Having to help out folks with hunts, going on long hunts to get one part from a specific monster for a friend, the amount of saves and big cheese with 4 hunters, all of it to be founded in gameplay. I believe that Monster Hunter devs know this, hence why they don't do much with their storytelling. But that's my honest perspective. Great vid! Love to see more Sock Sights.

You ever consider making a side channel to narrate a game that you loved and why people should give it a chance? Cause holy fuck I choked at the end. I’m fully convince to buy the game when I get my paycheck. Love the content man

Fantastic video J. I'm convinced and will definitely be getting Wild Hearts once performance is fixed.
