An unboxing video of the SoClean2 CPAP/APAP sanitizing system. I recently was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea and was prescribed a APAP machine (ResMed Airsense 10 Autoset) and being the neurotic germophobe that I am that I took EXTRA precautionary measures to ensure that a unit that is strapped to my head for the rest of my life is free from any bacteria, viruses, fungi and mold. You should always follow your DME's instructions on cleaning your CPAP system and augment it with the SoClean 2 system.

Been using the same ResMed CPAP that you have for over 3 years now. That machine has saved my life. About a month ago a good friend of mine asked me how my sleep treatment was going. I told him it was going great and I could not imagine sleeping without it. Then I brought up this automated cleaning system I was saving up for. He called me this morning and asked for a favor. He asked me if I would swing up to a local medical supply company and pick up some items that he had ordered. My friend is a 69 year old, retired, and disabled. He's family. I have made several trips to this store to pick up his supplies so I thought nothing of it. When I got to the store and informed them of what I was there for the wondeful woman behind the counter said that they were expecting me for the pick-up. She brought out a box, started demonstrating how it works and so on. I asked if I was supposed to pass all of this information on to my freind and that's when she broke! It seems my ol' friend had puchased a SoClean 2... for me! He set me up! What a great gift. I am a grown 40 year old man... but I couldn't help but tear up!

yes, cleaning a CPAP is a pretty important thing to do (IMHO) to ensure you're equipment doesn't have anything funky growing in it. The CPAP unit itself generally isn't so much of a concern as is the humidifier and hose since that is the interface between you and the CPAP. Excitement? lol. I admitted like presenting and showing people how to do things but I don't hate my cpap by any stretch since I started using it that it seems to have improved things for me even though I barely qualified to get a CPAP due to extremely mild sleep apnea.

Glad you liked my video. Yes the soClean only runs for a few minutes to generate ozone so it can pump it through the CPAP machine and flood the compartment with ozone. It then goes silent and the ozone takes time to kill off any bacteria and viruses that may be living in and on your equipment.

@@piercedasian maybe off topic, but speaking of the hose brush ...I've delayed getting a hose brush because it occurred to me that a bristle could break off from the brush when scrubbing inside the hose and get caught inside one of those little ridges in the tube and then be inhaled by me if it breaks loose and is moved up the hose with air during the night. Can you judge by the quality of the brush whether this could happen? I guess it's impossible to say, actually, but just as you're a "germaphobe," I believe you said, this is something I've gotten mentally stuck on too so have avoided the brush. Do you have a perspective? I like the idea of a brush to clean with. I've used CPAP for 6 years and have seen the gunky-looking film that seems to build up inside the ridges and I'd love to keep that from happening. BTW, your video is a lifesaver. Recently got the same setup as you and have avoided dealing with it. This will help. Thanks.

I can’t thank you enough, you just saved me the cost of a new SoClean machine! I went to use the machine this morning and kept getting a message saying the hose wasn’t connected. I checked all the connections several times and was so frustrated that I was ready to just buy a new one. I came across your video and got to the part about the end cap and you said the machine wouldn’t run without the cap in place. I checked again and found the end cap had fallen off onto the floor. Such a small but integral piece of equipment! So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for your concise and informative video!

Glad that you found the SoClean made a difference for you! I don't know if I feel any difference but I do know that my OCD tendencies can be put to rest knowing that I'm killling off whatever bacteria and viruses that may be present. I recently had a cold that I was getting over and I was coughing and hacking into my full face mask (gross) and after each night I would go and wipe my mask down and then run it through SoClean. I got over my cold quite quickly while the rest of my family remained sick for a couple of weeks longer.

Yes it is absolutely imperative to keep the original lid as travellers not in the know would be rudely surprised when they're travelling and use their cpap to discover they have a water fountain spurting water all over their machine. Vital to always keep the original parts and to be mindful to swap things over when travelling (unless you're compelled to travel with the SoClean as well).

Great descriptive video! I actually sell these and I demo it almost exactly like you did. One thing I would say differently would be is when using the SoClean2 with a Full face mask like you were using in the video - I would take it off the end of the hose and insert it into the SoClean2 Ozone Chamber by itself and dangle the cpap hose through the opening making the seal. If you don't, then your hose will start to prematurely stress and will fail where it awkwardly sets in the SoClean2 Ozone Chamber. These Soclean2s are amazing. And amazingly simple to use. I am a SoClean2 user for life. I wish they would have made these 20 years ago.

Thank you for your video, I set up my so clean so it would be ready to go in the morning. When I went to sleep it wouldn't work, it constantly kept turning off telling me there was a major leak. So I switched back to my original reservoir not knowing why it was turning off and not wanting to deal with it so I could just go to sleep. The next morning after watching your video I saw that I needed to simply switch the gasket to the new reservoir adaptor, duh. I was thinking maybe I had the wrong adaptor, but it works perfectly now. Again, thank you, I am very happy to know I have a system that's easy instead of hand cleaning the mask every morning, and that it cleans 99.9% which is awesome. I've always been a hands on learner and something as silly or easy as just changing the gasket made all the difference.

Thanks very much. The clearest explanation of the SoClean out of many "how to" videos out there. I have to thank you for something else. I have only had my CPAP machine for a while and have been laboring under the idea that I had to empty & clean the reservoir along with the hose & mask everyday. When I got the SoClean unit I couldn't figure out how to empty it while it was hooked to the unit. Thanks to you I now know that I just have to keep it topped off. So, in spite of the fact that I feel like an idiot, I thank you for saving me what would probably have been hundreds of dollars in distilled water every year.

If you use so-clean with a ResMed AirSense 10 that is under warranty. You will void the warranty. I'm a respiratory therapist that works for a home care company. We have a letter from Resmed stating that the warranty will be voided. It can make your machine sound like it has a bad bearing in it. So use it at your own peril.

Nice job.. I love my SoClean.. HOWEVER.. don't put your head gear into the machine.. it destroys (or better stated dramatically weakens) the material cloth and elastic.. just unclip the four corners, hang your head gear and toss your mask and hose in the machine. I haven't found consensus talking to a half dozen different sales and sleep techs regarding good or bad of water in the reservoir during a clean cycle. My routine is .. soon as I wake up.. I unclip my head gear.. toss the mask and hose in the SoClean.. fill my reservoir to max.. and hit the manual clean button... Now.. at bedtime.. I'm ready to hit the sack with little prep. To reiterate your comment.. this is a sanitizer... not a cleaner.. the weekly cleaning at minimum is absolutely needed... more frequent if you have the discipline...
@piercedasian
@piercedasian 5 жыл бұрын
yep you're absolutely right. I discovered this after speaking to a few folks too. It is questionable as to how long it takes to degrade the headgear and most folks are likely to replace their headgear every 6 months mark. That being said it is GOOD advice you've given and I'm going to detach my headgear too going forward. Thanks for reiterating the point that it is a sanitizer and not a cleaner. Regular cleaning still needs to be done which is usually accomplished by wiping the mask parts down with mask wipes.

Love your clarifications...they were vital to me as I am thinking about getting so clean. b/c SoClean doesn't remove mucous residue from your mask or snot or whatever bodily fluid discharges that may end up on your mask from either your nose or from sneezing. It also doesn't remove or eliminate body oils from your skin on the mask. It is meant to augment your cleaning routine and more importantly kill off bacteria and viruses in the CPAP circuit that would potentially make you ill.

This may seem like a silly question, but I need to ask just to be sure. Is the CPAP Machine suppose to be ON or OFF during the cleaning process? Also, should there be water in the humidifier during the cleaning process, or not? Thanks in advance! - Jon
@katesdad2855
@katesdad2855 4 жыл бұрын
CPAP off. Humidifier tank can be empty, partially filled or full for the next run--it does not matter. The required adapter is a replacement lid for the humidifier tank. It includes a short hose to get the ozone to the bottom of the humidifier tank. If there is water present then the ozone will bubble to the top and continue on through the "closed loop" to clean the whole system.
@piercedasian
@piercedasian 4 жыл бұрын
The CPAP machine is to remain off. You can leave water in the humidifier if you want as it will sanitize the water too.

If you look on my channel there is a vid that I just posted yesterday that shows the general video on how to hand wash all the key components so that they're clean. If you're going to invest in a SoClean that your equipment needs to be washed clean prior to use and you should still get into a habit of washing things with some warm soapy water on a regular schedule. Remember a SoClean will keep pathogens inside the hose and machine at very low levels but it won't remove organic contaminants such as facial oils, saliva and snot (should you sneeze into your cpap mask). Lastly, make sure the filter on the CPAP unit is clean as you wouldn't want mold spores or dust lingering on an old filter that could be propelled into the air stream when you first fire it up. Check out the latest video I published on hand cleaning it. How to PROPERLY Clean CPAP Equipment kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGOsZnWCp8iAkJI

An excellent presentation !! I'm considering buying a sanitizing machine and so far, your demonstration of the SoClean2 has helped convinced me to spend the money. Thanks again.
