Never mind. You nailed it. I just grabbed the wrong gauge and confusion followed.

Is the breather cover on the wrong way? The hose nipple seems to be facing the front of the bike.

couple of solutions: 1) if you took the cylinder head cover off. When you put the cover back on, make sure that you rubber band the tappets back(like in the video) and then place the cover back on the cylinder head. 2) Make sure you adjust your valves at "Top Dead Center" 3) if you removed your cam chain/cam. make sure you installed the cam correctly. you have to have the engine at Top Dead Center and the Cam has to be in a certain position before you put the cam chain/sprocket on.

Awesome walkthroughs on this cb550 - you've prompted me to rebuild the top end of my 77 cb550. Only issue I'm having right now is that I can't find the schematic of which valves should be loose and which ones tight at TDC 1-4 and 2-3. Do you know if the one you use in this video would apply to mine as well, or where I could find one? My Clymer's doesn't go into this much detail. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Great Vids. Question: At first you mention using .05 and .08mm and then while adjusting use and/say .003 and .005in. on the feeler gauge. The manual says IN .05mm(.002in.) and EX .08mm (.003in.). I've seen inconsistencies in the manual before. Can you verify which is correct?

Thanks for taking the time to make these. I just got a '75 550 and the valve noise has been driving me crazy and I can't find a clymer manual for it.

Great Vid !!! 2 Questions; Can I do this with the motor in the bike, and can I just remove the tappet covers or dose the hole cylinder cover have to come off
@SocoMoto70711 жыл бұрын
yes you can adjust the valves with the motor in your bike. just remove the tappet covers and you should be good

so with clean motor and new gaskets, no type of additional sealer needed? Do you torque your bolts?
@SocoMoto7077 жыл бұрын
no additional sealers were needed. all bolts were torqued as well.

Hey man do you have a video on how to set the static timing from scratch?
@SocoMoto70711 жыл бұрын
the best way is to remove all 8 tappet covers and turn your engine to either TDC.. then just feel the tappets... the ones that will be loose will move and the ones that wont will be extremely tight

the pattern doesnt matter, but what does matter is that you do the O's or X's independently... so do all the O's first then do all the X's second (or vice versa)
