Hello Socratica Friends! Are you worried about Standardized Tests? Do you have to prepare to take the SAT? ACT? GRE? TOEFL, LSAT, MCAT? The Socratica Team has taken SO many of these tests (and we've done pretty well, not gonna lie). We can help.
There's a lot of mystery surrounding standardized testing. This video will help you understand the ACT & SAT. When you understand what they're looking for, your worries will disappear. Then it all comes down to practice!
We partnered with Magoosh Online Test Prep for this video. They have a special offer for our Socratica Friends! They made a special page just for us:

Visit and take advantage of discounts and also some free goodies on this page!
Our most important piece of advice: NO CRAMMING!
Our general rule of thumb: Only study what you DON'T know.
Practice is key. Give yourself tons of time to practice. Not all at once! Break it into chunks, a little every day.
This video covers our advice for taking standardized tests in general. But if you'd like us to make a follow-up video about a specific test, let us know in the comments below. We could do that!

I volunteer with my local GED (General Education Diploma) program. I have met a variety of students and many of them could use a study guide like this one. How applicable is this video to the GED test? Would it be possible to create a video specifically for GED students? Thanks.

Hello Michael! Nice to hear from you. We've applied these techniques to all levels, starting in high school with AP, SAT, and ACT. We believe the general concept of pretesting to identify your weak spots, and only doing remedial study in those areas is essential for all of the standardized tests, so we think it should work for GED as well. We do focus on more advanced topics on this channel, generally, but would love to learn more about your work with GED students.

There's a great technique to use with Flashcards called "Spaced Repetition." You review the cards you miss more often than the cards you know. Some programs like Anki have this technique built in. See our video about flashcards here: bit.ly/Flashcards_Studytips

SAT subject tests still have penalty for guessing , check this link collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat-subject-tests/scores/how-tests-are-scored it says : Your answer sheet is scanned and the resulting file of answers is analyzed by our system. The system takes the circles that you filled in and calculates your raw score. Basically, this is the sum of points you earned based on the number of questions you answered correctly, minus a fraction of the number of the questions that you answered incorrectly: One point is added for each correct answer. A fraction of a point is subtracted for wrong answers: 1/4 point is subtracted for five-choice questions. 1/3 point is subtracted for four-choice questions. 1/2 point is subtracted for three-choice questions. No points are deducted for unanswered questions. If the resulting score is a fraction, it is rounded to the nearest whole number - 1/2 or more is rounded up; less than 1/2 is rounded down. maybe SAT 1 has no penalty , but subject tests do ....
