Literally the only SoD Hunter video that agrees that Lone Wolf works really well as a Marksmanship Rune NOT a Melee Hunter rune. Loved the insight and explanations. Earned my sub :)

The flanking strike > raptor strike spam seems good and isn't possible without a pet. I'm sure some people are going to do Lone Wolf melee but they shouldn't expect it to feel "complete"

Loved your video. A PvP focused video would be amazing, discussing best runes and lvl 25 specs. I know good PvE runes like Sniper Training will not be so good in PvP, as you hardly have the chance to stay 6 sec in the same place. I'm particularly excited for the Beast Mastery rune as it will make Wind Serpents so much more viable, similar to TBC.

I’m sooooooo hyped for melee hunter! I’m interested to see at how many targets Carve will outperform Beast Mastery. With pet scaling added and us likely always using Aspect of the Lion… let’s are gunna be so strong- and that may be overall better than Carve in most situations (outside of heavy cleave, ofc). But eventually having that Beast Mastery cooldown… even as a melee hunter that feels so strong and will likely out perform deep survival for Melee hunter (me just projecting, of course. Who knows) 🤷🏼‍♂️ but I simply foresee the melee hunter build being a pet-focused, raptor strike spamming, flanking strike weaving build - which is awesome. I always felt BM should be more melee heavy, fighting alongside your pet, rexxar style

It's crazy to imagine that SoD version of melee is better than the retail version, just by looking at the skills and how it plays I can already say that it'll be fun. Also my version of melee hunter is for sure going to be BM/SV, there's no point going deep in survival, just the extra damage for traps and critical for raptor is enough.

For lvl 25 I'm going marks to get aimed shot with the mm rune, beastmastery rune, and either kill command or flanking strikes. Will also get a windserpent to punish anyone trying to abuse deadzone. I think pet and myself will be pumping big dmg for first phase. So glad you're making vids for sod, most hunter stuff out rn is garbage.

I think the key for melee hunter in PVP will be group fights and timing. Generally youre gonna have to rangeweave and poke until someone gets out of position and then get your ramp in. Luckily the kit is built to keep people away form you, which just inversely flip, makes it hard for people to get away as well. Melee is gonna burst when they can, and chill. You cant charge into mass basically. Its a skirmisher not a true a melee brawler. In classic i played a marks/surv hunter at 60 with Giantstalker and Ass-candy for pvp. Would do the ranged thing until people got close, whip out the big ole hog and slap em for a 2k raptor strike. I imagine it will be very similar. The biggest thing will be realizing its more of a hybrid for pvp then pure melee i think.

I'm super excited for melee hunter as well, and I'm thinking that due to the nature of Flanking Strike, the Beast Mastery hand rune might be really good for melee hunter as well, depending on whether you can cleave or not. This is of course assuming that switching when out of combat is quick and simple enough that you can simply slot it in for single target fights. So with that, a sort of Survival/BM hybrid, where you fight in melee in tandem with your pet, seems really fun! As a tangent, I also imagine that with the Beast Mastery hand rune changing Growl into an actual taunt, along with the other buffs, pet off-tanking has never been better.

THANK YOU!!!! Finally after half a dozen dedicated Hunter "Guides" you're the first one to EVER mention Sniper Training as a BM rune, all others instantly turn off their neurons and go for KC, while mindboggingly still maintaining Cobra Strikes (even though Hunters have a laughable normal crit% by lv25, I guess their idea is to spam a dozen Arcane shots and hoping for 1 trigger?). Your BM 0/13/3 talent tree sounds very interesting, but going a level further, I think maxing Improved Arcane Shot could be even better. My plan is to spam lv1 Arcane Shots for their low mana cost just to trigger 2 pet crits as often as possible (Lighting Breath or Bite, either reaches native ~40dmg at lv25). With that talent we get 12 shots per minute instead of the usual 10, which pushes the average Cobra Strikes trigger (assuming an easy 40% crit) from 4 activations to ~5, reaching the Godly 10 pet crits per minute. Man I can't wait.

If they add in an avoidance rune for pets which I think they will, I would love to do a Rexxar like build. Something like Aspect of the Lion on chest, beast mastery on gloves, and flanking strikes on legs. You could either go deep survival into lightning reflexes and then dabble in BM down to ferocity or you could go deep bm down to beastial wrath and then dabble in survival down to surefooted. It would basically be a combo pet and melee build, obviously this is planned out for 60 but i thought it would be a cool idea if it works.

On the Move and Call your Shot look to me like buffs that would be used for events or quests tied with unlocking the Runes themselves. Little mini-games you must accomplish in order to obtain them, and these strike me as buffs you would get during the event/minigame you use.

On the Move could definitely be a future rune ability that functions similarly to paladin's bubble, making the hunter unhittable + giving a speed buff but also giving some kind of a major offensive debuff to the hunter to balance it out. So you can't do much offensively while it's active but it'd be a nifty multipurpose tool for either safely engaging in melee or disengaging back to max distance once per combat (assuming the ability has a hefty cooldown) .....OR you could use it to run away like a b-

Praise Hunter Jesus and good to have some nuanced coverage. What do you make of shot rotations? Classic was extremely sensitive to weapon speed, favoring slower weapons due to aimed shot mechanics. Is the rotation still aimed/multi or will chimaera replace aimed? Chimaera says 125% wep dmg afaik and aimed at 25 has wep dmg + 70 so it's likely aimed will hit harder but if Chimaera is instant it might tip the scales?? Big big questions that takes a boi with pair of big bobbs to answer, at the very least

the range on the traps might just be some placeholder thing according to the wowhead guy who released the datamine said on a podcast. iirc they said it didnt have some other thing that you'd expect to see with a ranged spell but i think that might indicate that there are some ranged traps coming

Beast mastery hands rune might be nutty for melee hunter with flanking strike. BM rune increases pet damage by 30% and flanking strike seems to scale with pet damage.

I think for PvP hybrid hunter is gonna be the way, there's nothing better for PvP than flanking strikes no matter what you pick at least for now. Having better burst at melee as range is huge, also love the new raptor strike alone makes being at melee better.

I know you said you think that Raptor Strike doesn't consume the Flanking Strike buff, and I agree with you. The buff only lasts for 10 seconds, and the Flanking Strike CD is 30 seconds, so if it consumed it, there would never be a way to stack it. I think the idea is that you FS to get the buff up, and pray that your RS resets the FS CD ASAP so you can do it again before the buff expires, thus stacking it.

For "Call Your Shot". If it's a thing I'm thinking it may be like Monk's Hit Combo on retail. Chaining shots together for a damage multiplier and not using the same shot twice in a row. Maybe something for level 60 where there could be faster CD shots or no CD shots.

Newest PTR update has some heavy changes... ;( 1) Engrave Chest - Lone Wolf Engrave your chest or robe with the Lone Wolf rune: You deal 15% (25% before) increased damage with all attacks while you do not have an active pet. 2) Engrave Pants - Sniper Training Engrave your pants with the Sniper Training rune: Your Shot abilities gain 10% (30% before) increased critical strike chance while you have not moved for the last 6 sec.

Changes that should happen for Melee Hunter: Cobra Stikes to also trigger off off of all Hunter Abilities so as to include melee. Flanking Strike reset chance from Raptor Strike to be either increased to 33 percent or reset on Raptor Strike Crits. 20% to reset seems too low to be considered consistent and ever truly benefit from the stacking increased Raptor Strike damage from FS. Theres also no telling if the damage buff duration resets on reapplication.

What do people think the melee BiS weapon will be for Hunter? I think it will be between the two new blue 2Hs dropped in the reworked BFD: Guardian's Trident and Fathomblade. The trident gives +8 agil and has slightly more dps, but the Fathomblade increases hit chance and has chance on hit effect. Or does anyone think it will be a different weapon? Someone let me know!

Which weapon has a slower swing speed or are they the same? Slower Swing speed was always stat'd higher for Main Hand/2 hand weapons back in Vanilla because of how the conversions worked. Especially double when you could do things like clip your swing animations by timing instant skills. That was Arms back during Mount Hyjal, and I hated every moment of watching that grey bar to push a button :P

if we get pet scaling i think lion aspect would be pretty broke for BM due to double dipping ofc at lvl 60. unless pets scale 1/1 with our stats it would pretty much wasted before we get actual stats on our gear

You can collect all runes and change them as much as you like, just have to be out of combat
