A FULL Mountain Dew Can was placed in Hydrochloric Acid. 5/12/2017, it's sad this is my most popular video, hahaha, really, it's bad, stop watching it. Thanks!!!!

Mountain dew dissolved the acid
@AssistantLeaflet7 жыл бұрын
rusty no the carbonic acid should have increased the ph to 1, unless of course the HCL was very dilute. which I think it was because if it was at the average 30% it would take bout 40 seconds to react and dissolve the aluminium chloride almost entirely.

Can you provide insight into what caused combustion? Was it a reaction with the metal or the soda? Or was it simply the carbonation dispersing after the acid dissolved enough of the bottom the same way it "pops" when you open it? Thanks!

Ok so this was literally a comment from four years ago, but I am pretty sure you could most likely put diluted hcl for safety purposes and specified it in your project. Hope you did well on that project, from when you were still in high school lmao.

+The Doge from www.livestrong.com/article/538024-what-is-the-molarity-of-stomach-acid/ Secretion and Dilution The cells responsible for producing the HCl in your stomach are the parietal cells, and the solution they secrete has a concentration of 160 millimoles per liter -- in other words, 0.16 moles per liter, corresponding to a pH of 0.8. In the stomach, however, the solution becomes diluted to a pH between 1 and 2, which corresponds to a hydrochloric acid concentration between 0.1 and 0.01 moles per liter. So Yes. :]

Really like this vid Can you please tell me why the can exploded and why the liquid in the cup is yellow after the experience? I don't know how to explain it. Thanks for your help. :)))))))))
@SimplyChem328 жыл бұрын
+Chi Phạm Well, the can exploded because the acid was *ever so slowly* dissolving the can, and the internal pressure of the carbonation was too great for the weakened aluminum can to bear. The liquid was yellow, because that's simply the color of Mountain Dew :)

why did it explode? is that what would happen if wee swallowed some tin? Why did it take so long?
@SimplyChem328 жыл бұрын
+Isabelle Williams Well, I wouldn't say it EXPLODED, but any jolt was simply the result of the pressure in the can. If we swallowed tin? The reaction wouldn't be nearly as vigorous, given the difference in concentration between the acids. Why'd it take so long? Because I was a dingus, and I didn't use a high enough concentration of acid.
