Good adaption. I love the Diesel Theme arrangement in the opening sequence. I also really like how the story lines have moved on since the 50s and 60s, and how the diesels are cooperating with the steam engines - something that the current adaption of the TV series is badly missing.

I spoke with Dan in a conversation on DA sometime back and we drew a very intreasting conclusion. The reasons why Diesel seemed to be more of a 'bad guy' in *Duck and the Diesel Engine* is because it was told in Duck's POV. In his eyes, diesels were troublesome and replacing steam engines. It's also likely Duck was recoiling from his siblings being withdrawn and scrapped at this stage in time, especially considering Diesel's class is the one replacing his own on BR. In Diesel's eyes here, we learn why he believes his type are superior and he wanted to pay Duck out by hoping the big engines would give Duck other nicknames. But ultimately this backfired and then he did continue his lies. Not about Henry though, but to a policeman to try to get out of trouble. I guess my explanation why Henry was mentioned in the books instead was because the Thin Clergyman wasn't sure how to explain to kids that Diesel lied to a policeman.
@dracorex68765 жыл бұрын
You know, this take on the rivalry between Duck and Diesel makes it tie more to the TV series than the book Duck and the Diesel Engine of The Railway Series, since while in that book, it was explained that Diesel was sent away for telling lies about Henry, the TV series was ambiguous, with the Fat Controller saying "I never believed Diesel, so I sent him packing." All in all, this was a really good spin on the Duck and Diesel trilogy.
@DarthWill312 жыл бұрын
So Bowler was partly the reason Diesel was so concieted, huh? "It seemed that only one policeman cared about that law." LOL Who'd have thought that the Spiteful Brakevan was cooperative in helping Percy and Thomas before he went down in pieces...

cool story! I just grinned like Thomas did when he and Percy played "good cop bad cop" with the trucks, something you never really see the engines do. I think it'd be funny to see one or two more gags with the trucks being fooled by engines, really shows how gullible they are. It was also very good to see a form of Sub-plot to "A Close Shave" where we saw how Diesel was found out for his devious deeds.

I asked him about Diesel telling lies about Henry and he said it wouldn't fit with the direction he wanted to take Diesel in as he's drastically different from Diesel in the RWS and Tv series. You'll notice that Diesel is kinder in a sense because here he only told lies about Duck in hopes of getting the other engines to tease him as opposed to planning to get Duck sent away deliberately. That's pretty much why telling lies about Henry isn't in this :)

I've seen the classic series and something about duck always had me confused. He says the other great western engines said he "waddled" like a duck as he went along the rails and that's how he got the name duck. But it's really just a nickname I belive his real name is montique. If you ask me, montique is a great name for an engine! But he prefers to be called duck. I wonder if the "waddling" has something to do with his class' design. I mean when I was observing his design his body almost overhangs his wheels. Given that an engine like duck could very well wobble. His chassie is too narrow for his body or visa versa. But don't quote me on that I could be wrong.
@WildNorWester9 жыл бұрын
+Anna Schmange It actually came from the Reverend Awdry's 00 scale model of Duck. Due to the way the model was made, it 'waddled' as it went down the tracks. Henry Mk 1's problems were also based on the model.
@engineerskalinera8 жыл бұрын
