I believe this was intentional, especially because spirit (aka aether) is sometimes referred to as the 5th element -- and "spirit" obviously being the first word in the chorus. Another reason is the phrase, "our essence is the key". The 5th element is also called quint*essence* - literally "the fifth element", and it's also the highest element. Therefore, spirit is the key. As far as the criticism that sky is not air goes: You can make that semantic argument, but I don't think it holds as it is entirely divorced from the obvious artistic intent. Wind/air/sky/atmosphere would all arguably equate here. The criticism is quite clearly wrong based upon my explanation above. Whether someone wants to nit-pick whether or not sky = air, it's comfortable to say that the lyrics were chosen deliberately in the way the OP suggested.

I’m with you for sure. Not necessarily because it’s my preference in general,but because it’s my preference for this band specifically. Mainly since I think Joel Ekelof’s vocals are better suited for the more melodic and softer songs and parts than the heavier ones. I also think Martin Lopez’s insane groove/feel drumming style really shines in the softer songs and parts as well.

@@whiteadi Lopez does not sound like Danny Carey---at times he can sound like Tomas Haake (Oscillations, from Cognitive), but not Carey. But most of the times he sounds like his work with Opeth. Edit: For example the drumming during the first chorus of this song is very, very similar to the drumming in the early part of Harlequin Forest.
