I just noticed my Lazy Boy sleeper sofa has a frayed corner and the tension rod coming out. Would this patch system be the best way to fix this, or would replacing the cheap tarp material with sail cloth be a more lasting fix? Thanks for the video!
@ucsolutionsgivingmore3 жыл бұрын
Hey there, the patchwork would work. But if you can replace it with the sail cloth that would be superior. It would last for many many years. If you’re in a position to take it on and replace the whole thing that would be great other than that the patch will just get you through. I really appreciate watching the video I hope this helps you. Please share because it does help us when you do. All the best, Paul

Thanks for the videos. I am in a similar bind. I have a sofa bed that is sagging in the middle. I don’t see anything wrong with cushions or frame. I believe it is two rods (forming x shape) that support mattress that lost against 4 kids jumping up and down. I wish I had reference pictures to compare. Any suggestions how to confirm what issue I am dealing with. Thank you!
@ucsolutionsgivingmore4 жыл бұрын
Hi Zoya, you are welcome. It is really difficult to say without being there to see it. Sometimes the tarp or material that holds the mattress, stretches out of shape causing it to sag. The cross bars as well can do the same with kids jumping on it. Take the mattress off and look underneath to see if there is a drop in the center. If so it's the platform. Do you have small coil springs on the sides of the frame? Some models do and they may have come undone or missing. Not seeing it I would guess it's those factors causing the problem. Hey try this place I found online maybe they can help some. recliner-handles.com/sofa-sleeper-repair/parts/ I hope this has put you in the driver seat to fix it. Thank you for watching ,If you have any other question send it my way. Cheers, Paul

Thank you so much! What type fabric should you use to redo your sofa
@ucsolutionsgivingmore3 жыл бұрын
Hi Naomi, Thank you so much for watching our videos! If you’re referring to the slipcover I would use any fabric that isn’t too thick or too thin. Really thick fabrics will have a hard time laying flat in the seam areas. And thin fabrics don’t have much body to them as well as they can allow the upholstery fabric underneath to photograph through. Other than that you can really use just about any fabric you like.

Hi I love watching you guys! Thank you so very much!! You’ve helped me fix a few things and my DIY decorating. Would you please tell me how I can fix a cushion that just has kind of a dent in one little spot?
@ucsolutionsgivingmore4 жыл бұрын
Hello again Diana, good to hear from you. If I have it right there's an impression in the cover when pushed in. Is it a leather cover? They are the worst!! If that is the case you shouldn't need new foam, but you might. Try this first get poly batting as thick as you can best is one inch. If you only have say 1/2" double up and glue together. This is pretty inexpensive and easy to do, see if that stops the impressions. If not you will need to get new foam the old foam seems to be to small for the job, pushing back to fill out the cushion that is. I hope this has helped you and I am very happy to know you love the videos. Thank you always Cheers, Paul

Is there a mattress you recommend for a sofa bed? I don’t like the mattress that came with my sofa bed and it was super expensive :(
@ucsolutionsgivingmore4 жыл бұрын
Hello LaRana, thanks for watching the video. Yes those mattresses are quite uncomfortable. Unfortunately I don’t have a recommendation for sleep sofa mattresses. I would believe your best bet is a soft piece of foam. I would recommend soft so when you fold up the bed it’s not difficult to fold up. If it’s a medium firm foam you might have a hard time when putting the bed away. You can go to ucprivatecourses.com put in the measurements there and you’ll get a price delivered to your door. I hope that helps wish I had more information for you. Again thank you for watching and please share the videos it helps us when you do. Cheers, Paul

It is maddening how furniture makers cut corners with materials...like using particle board for structural components.

Thanks for another great video. I can't tell if the deck fabric is the same on the other side of the seam where the bed folds. (It looks like a different material but may just be the lighting.) If the ripped panel was frayed so badly that the patch didn't have much to stick to, would it be possible to stitch the patch to that seam? Do you think that would hold it? I had to do something similar to a leather chair that had flimsy fabric pull strips where the cover was pulled tight and stapled to the frame of the seat. They were shredded. I replaced them with some duck I had on hand. I stitched it with a Speedy Stitcher awl, which makes a lockstitch just like a sewing machine and it came out better than original. I think it would work for this also. But then I'd probably replace the whole deck if it was that bad. (I wouldn't have said that a couple years ago. I've learned a lot from you two, enough to give me the confidence to tackle refurbishing yard sale finds for my home. Saves me money and keeps it out of the landfill. You guys are among my favorites.)
@ucsolutionsgivingmore6 жыл бұрын
Hello again, good to hear from you. I think I understand your thought. The patch we put on, we stitched where the fraying had not occurred yet. The glue we put on in front of the stitching, WILL stop any further fraying from taking place, acting as a block-aid. There's a product on the market called fray stop. It really just a clear glue when dry, that stops fraying and it works very well. I hope this is what you meant. Hey that is GREAT to hear you have taken on projects with the help of the videos and keeping the furniture out of the landfills. We love to hear that, Plus the saving of money, win win!! Hey thanks for following us and for all your comments. Hey if haven't already. Please share the videos it really helps us when you do. Cheers, Paul

Is there any way could point me in the direction to have a sofa bed repaired in NC? It seems like the bed may be detaching from the sofa and the actual sofa sits really low now, seems like almost to the floor.

Hi Antoinnette Thank you so much for watching our videos! Unfortunately I do not know off the top of me head of a location in NC that would be able to help you. The most upholstery shops should be able to fix this problem though. If you’d like we can try to walk you through how to fix it yourself if you contact us on our website at ucprivatecourses.com via the live chat.

i got an old Pottery Barn sofa bed at a flea market. When I open the mattress, the metal carriage hits the floor causing a big scratch and if I take the mattress out, you can't sit on it because it will just sink. Shouldn't you b able to sit on it regardless of whether the mattress is in and can the fact that it hits the ground when being opened be repaired or should I just toss it? The mattress is actually really good.
@ucsolutionsgivingmore3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching our videos! The fact that it hits the ground when it opens is something that should be able to be repaired. I’m assuming that the cage itself shifted down closer to the floor. Check where the actual cage is attached to the sofa frame and see if that is loose or can be shifted upwards. Also you will need the rigidity of the mattress inside the cage if you are to use the sofa. The mattress itself acts as your sofa’s platform. I hope this helps!
@funsun91153 жыл бұрын
@@ucsolutionsgivingmore thanks so much for the reply. This is so helpful. I didn't realize the mattress had to be in for it to work properly. duh! I took the mattress out because it's such good quality I want to use it for a third bedroom. guess I'll try to find something cheap and rigid enough - foam - so that the sofa continues to work. Yeah, I really hope the cage can be lifted. It'd be a pity to throw the whole sofa away but as it is now, it will gouge the floor. I put something under it but I want to be able to function properly without having to take a bunch of extra steps. Thanks again for your help. I really appreciate it

Love watching your videos guys. I myself is looking to bring life back into a Natuzzi leather sofa I purchased a few years ago, based on all my research and color matching it is safe to say it's a cognac color. I am in the process of replacing the cushions but the faded seating and armrest areas are in such bad condition I figured I'd reach out to you guys for some advice on leather Dye products. There are many vids on here but none I truly trust with using on a such expensive sofa. Please help Thanks, T Germain

Hi Thierry, Yes I know what kind of fading you are talking about. The sofas sounds great other than the fading problem. We don't dye leather or fabrics, however there's a place you can try. Also check out this place this might help as well. www.furnitureclinic.com Thank you for watching and please share our videos it goes a long way for us when you do. All the best. Paul

Really tough to replace. The rods that hold the platform. YES! You can find replacement rods online, look for the same thickness and a strong tensile strength. High enough for support, yet bendable if needed. I know its hard to know when buying online. I hope this has gotten you on the right path. Please share the videos it helps us when you do. Much easier to just take the whole thing off. Remove the replies piece and sew your patch on. This was a lot of unnecessary work that would or couldn't not last. When it would have taken 10 minutes to seam rip that section off and see the new one on. Smh. If you don't have a sewing machine fine a local seamstress.
