Sofa is a very old rhythm and song, played to praise and support the warriors known as the Sofa. Traditionally it was played as the Sofa left the village or for their valor when they returned. It was also played when a great warrior or hunter passed away. Some say it was also played for nobles who had shown their worth in battle. Originally it was played by a stringed instrument called a bolon, but has since been adapted for the djembe.
