This song is like holding a secret on the tip of your tongue (as Sofia said herself), chewing it like the “hot gum” that’s being talked about in the song. The secret to me seems to be about a husband cheating on his wife. One day she finds out, and the longer he keeps the secret, the longer they both suffer. “Your hair burns, my hair burns, your skin burns, my skin burns.” And because they’re both holding a secret from each other, it ruins their marriage (as if it wasn’t ruined already) “I watch us burn and fall, the heat is 10 feet tall, the potential is bench-pressing us into the wall.” The ‘potential’ she might be talking about is the potential to confess a secret. The ‘wall’ potentially meaning a corner? So, they’re both being pressured into a corner, and once they hit that wall, they have no choice but to confess. Him to confess that he’s been having an affair, and her to confess that she already knew about it. That’s just my interpretation though. Hope it was interesting lol

My interpretation: She's a demon and the guy's a sinner, a psycho that is. So anyway, she came on earth to punish him, firstly by seducing him and playing a victim of his. He basically kidnapped her, with him saying: "I could never leave her, I could never keep her", and also the part "he put us in a car, I don't know where we are...". Him falling in love with the fever means that he gets off from the rush of it all, while her falling in love with the fever means she enjoys him sinning because she knows that she gets to punish him for it in hell. Anyhow the guy talks to his priest about it all but in the end we find out that he didn't listen to his preacher, meaning that in retrospective of the narrative, they both end up in hell. The demon now gets satisfaction from him burning and suffering, knowing that "he's a liar that says they feel nothing", even though he is in immense pain for what he has done. Ok bye

Then, you can consider that it’s a commentary on how men are often painted as the victims when it’s often the opposite (the bits about being in a car sound rather kidnappy). Or it’s just a doomed relationship where both parties are infatuated with each other to an unhealthy level.
