Great video, I did not think about counting, I have been jigging too early. What brand is that white paddle tail, it has an awesome action.

Awesome content Loz, im finding the fishing a lot slower this time of year, we definitely have to keep the softplastics on the bottom a lot longer

good start to december for ya. it was a slow start for me but conditions were overcast. looked mint as where u were. personally i prefer using zman grubz and my go to weight would be 1/4oz or 1/2 if i'm trolling on the kayak. for reels i tried baitcaster (curado dc) works don't get me wrong but bloody backlashes happens every now and then. bloody annoying especially wen it snaps off the leader

I’m hearing you mate, it’s easy to bump the dials on a baitcaster reel, if you don’t get it right 🤬 bird nests 🤬

Great vid Loz, very informative and a nice reminder for those doing this for years to remember the basics. I had completely forgotten the sink rate differences until recently when I was playing around with my softbaits in the swimming pool was also amazed by how slow a 7’ Livie with a 1ounce was slower than a gulp on a 3/8 lol.

LOL I'm guilty of using our pool to test softbaits, what really surprised me is how loud a jig head is when it hits the bottom of the pool.

great stuff, champ. Secrets from a real gun. One point re the sink rate that maybe is a bit deceptive - I think it takes longer for lures/jigheads to sink using a baitcaster compared to a spin reel, simply because of the extra resistance from the weight having to pull line off the reel, rather than much more loose with a spin set up. The buoyancy thing is a biggie in the shallows, in my view. I used to get snagged up a lot more when using Gulp, and finally worked out why. It's helpful in the shallows, I think, to use a buoyant lure. The other thing to consider is hook size with the various sizes of lures - 3/0 versus 5/0 for example; and with fat-bodied lures such as some of the grubs, you can make them weedless in the shallows by using a smaller hook size.

All great points, the OH is the only reel where I free spool the decent. Spin reel I flip the bail arm as soon as they hit the water, with the aim of staying in touch. It would be different if I fished deeper. As for #5/0 jig heads, I seldom go that big, preferring 3/0 with 7 inch softbaits 👍
