Power states... You have to increase each state by at least 1mv and 1 mhz to allow the card to switch states under load... If it does not switch states the HBM will be downclocked and so will the rest of the card even if your core clocks up... If the card keeps fluctuating under load increas "HBM voltage" or minimum voltage and increas power theirs some kind of OCP around 350-450... If it tries to use more it will down clock HBM even if your at 40c... The HBM mv cannot exceed P7 mv... If you use Pstates and you mess up the card it will still work in P1 most likely...

You don't happen to know if there is a registry key, other than ULPS for pre-RX400 generation cards, that would allow to disable the downclocking of the memory speed. Currently I have to "simulate" a second screen within Windows, to keep the series-300 card from clocking down massively in "idle" desktop mode. Otherwise my monitor gets no more signal after about 45mins with the continously decreasing clock-speeds in "idle"(normal desktop usage). Thx :)

So, looking at the recent 'fun' video from Gamers Nexus where a Vega 56 has its power slider upped from 50% to 242% via the registry edits detailed here, would it also be advisable if adjusting the Vega 56 power play table, to also up the current limit as you did here for the Vega 64 ? (You adjusted from 300A up to 400A) Example, upping the Vega 56 from 50% to 100%, I assume you can safely bump the 300A limit up as well. Or is that not needed or recommended on a Vega 56 ? (Currently I have the Strix 56)

Second Ossi. You might even squeeze out slightly more from a 56 with tinkering than a 64 with tinkering. Remember, these babies are mostly heat limited, a 56 produces less heat at the same clock speed. It takes some more doing than usual, but the cards can still be tinkered with.
@Tempest123227 жыл бұрын
im planning on watercooling it anyway, so heat wouldnt be an issue
@abigailpatridge29487 жыл бұрын
No, it actually will be still. You'd need some pretty exotic cooling to get where you can run the same clocks on both after flashing a better bios on the 56. The 56, after giving it more room, will outperform the 64 on water. Or get damn close at worst, if you lose the silicon lottery.

Because you have to count with HEX numbers. So for + 200% power limit you should not enter 128 but C8. Take the windows calculator and go to programming, there you will see HEX, DEC, OCT and BIN. Press DEC and enter 200 because you want to have 200%, then look at the HEX and you will see C8 there. Place that C8 where you entered 128, restart your PC and watch again.

Quite interesting. My R9 270 doesn't reach 3D clocks when I have ULPS enabled when using unofficial extended overclocking (>1050MHz). So in order to run it at 1100MHz, I need to disable ULPS in afterburner, or the performance will be atrocious.
@jakegarrett81097 жыл бұрын
Weird, is it a single card? I didn't have to do anything like that (I had mine at just over 1400 Mhz) on my reference R9 270 and only if a game didn't push it hard enough would it have problems with clock speeds. Sometimes I had to set it to Ultra, but that was about it. I say reference 270, but I could only get up to 1150 Mhz and survive Furmark with that Intel sized stock cooler, so this was sub zero cooled www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/details/2hwdz
@djs50897 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's a single card. It's an Asus R9 270 DualX OC. It used to work without having to disable ULPS, earlier this year it started to require disabling ULPS though. If I don't, the clocks will stay at 150MHz. You got 1150, huh? That's pretty sweet. I can get 1150 working in Firestrike, but it won't survive Valley or Heaven. 1100MHz is stable as a rock across the board though.
@jakegarrett81097 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I had I think around 1200 stable on the wimpy OEM cooler (single fan and Intel sized heatsink), but for keeping it from going past 100c in Furmark, I limited it to 1150 Mhz. I just limited it down for worste case scenario, it was a pretty good overclocker. It may be AMD's new drivers. I know that in the 17 drivers, the HBM overclocking is not working with my R9 Furys (maybe it was for the Vega launch, but I don't think they are working yet). It worked fine in the 16 series drivers. Silicon Lottery, its huge... Testing 4 identical XFX RX 470s, I got 3 to hit 1950 on Vram, but 1 refused to go past 1850 without massive artifacting or crashes. At I think it was about identical settings, I had that same card pulling 270w, but the other 3 were all around 215 to 220w range (measured from wall - idle power). Funny thing is, the lowest ASIC score was one of the best cards, and the high (like 90+%) was the crappy inefficient one that couldn't overclock worth a darn. I BIOS flashed all of these myself with modified memory timings and ramped up the power limits (they power throttled like mad, like 600-700 Mhz on Furmark, and everything was just making them throttle, still even at +50% power, at stock...). So I cranked power limits from 87 up to 140w, and it still throttles stock in some things, so push that slider up to +25% to +50% if you want to run them overclocked.

*EDIT* I found my answer after many more hours digging. I eventually found soft PPT's for each different card, so I was able to get the 150% power limit on the V64L BIOS without screwing up the P-State clockrates. Bloody difficult to find the PPT's though, if you have a link perhaps you could add it to the video description! Site note: On the V64L BIOS @ 150% power limit, 1250mv and a 1% OC over the V64L stock clocks, my card maintains 1,750mhz constantly during Firestrike Extreme - stable for hours of stress testing. 1.5% OC is not stable though, so perhaps I didn't get super lucky in the silicon lottery.

I read on some forum (could not find proof anymore) that 56 and 64 is working. When I had my one Vega 56 with 64 bios and the 2nd Vega on stock 56 (system saw them as 56 and 64) they did CF no problems. But I would not advice to get a mixture like that, even if it works fine. Since when you putt Waterblocks on them, like I did, they beat 64 AIR easily. When both 56 & 64 are pushed on water, they are almost equal. Only minor benchmark score differences, no real-life gains (yet). So don`t waste your money, mate:)

you can CF a 56 and a 64 without doing anything. the main benefit to putting a 64 BIOS onto a 56 is that you get 1.35V HBM voltage instead of 1.25V which lets the card do 1GHz+ mem clocks.
