It does remind me of the Bayverse designs… but with more thought put into them. Need Raph to be huge but sweet? Let’s make him the biggest species of domestic turtle. Why does Donnie have a tech backpack and an inferiority complex? Soft shell Want Mikey to be all glitzy but without tattoos? Stickers and box turtle. Want Leo to be more classical and striking? Red eared slider. Honestly, it does open up a lot that you could do for adaptations later down the road. I double dare the next iteration to make one of them a sea turtle.

Daddy Vomitello aside I just noticed today a subtle detail during that 'finding shelter' part. Notice when Mikey slipped? Donnie actually looks worried right there and stopped. And when it should be Donnie who gets in the truck first, we can see on the next scene that it is Mikey who got in first. Big brother moment right there... even though he sTiLL GOT HIS SOFT SHELL EXPOSED. If you haven't seen it, try changing the speed to 0.25x and look at 0:04.
