I put in a generac 24kw a few months back and I have a 4 ton and a 2 ton AC units and when the 4 ton starts the generac was bogging pretty good. I checked the 4 ton, it's an old one, about 17 years old now, and it was rated to pull 117 LRA. I decided to bite the bullet and buy a Micro Air soft start for both units and will be adding them next week. I don't want to have to deal with brownouts running on generator and this should help to add life to both compressors and the genset as well.

Great video…learned more on your video than AC sites. Going from a hard start to soft start for generator

Nice video. Welcome to the soft start club. Amazing how much the inrush amps drop. I’ve got a 2 ton I’m about to install it on. I’ve had huge success on a 3 ton already.

Installed mine went from 120 inrush Amps to 40 inrush Amps. Had to follow my schematic on my A/C to get the wiring right. Was quick and easy to install on my Ruud 4 Ton unit. Sounds so much better starting up. Getting it in advance of a 12k automatic standby generator. This will allow me to get a 10 - 12k instead of a larger one.

Sweet!!… You should check for hertz drop after the install. That’s what really matters. Thanks for the share! Larry

Heating and cooling companies always try and push a 2-1/2 ton unit and no matter what they told you is a 3 ton unit would've been better for you is because a 3 ton unit wouldn't have to work as hard to cool your home like a 2-1/2 ton unit does. I know first hand and am really glad I changed to a bigger unit especially on really hot days. The man kept trying to get me to buy the smaller unit but you have to stand your ground.

5:37 Looks like it already has a popular hard-start kit installer based on the relay with the red sticker.

Yea it had start capacitor on it but that has no assistance on the start up against the generator, the lights were flicking pretty bad when on generator power. Soft start crushed all that. Starts smooth now and gradually ramps up the compressor instead all in one full blast start.

Hardstart is not a SOFT START totally different.

Any chance you could share how you connected the wires coming off the green connector block? I've tried following the pictures on the provided instruction sheet....but no joy :( It seems the problem might be the difference in the terminal block/start relay (pins 23/21as mine don't match the Sure Start schematic.

On my system the blue wire which is the start wire goes from the top green lug to the herm in the capacitor, and the bottom black wire goes to the common on the T side of the contacter. If need be, call the sure start customer service number or the condenser manufacturer and they will help you identify the correct wires. I’f you cross them you can damage the compressor.

Why cant the units be made with the soft start when built!!
@dan82202 жыл бұрын
Some of the fancier ones are. This one is bare entry level unit.

4-5 K for replacing compressor is RIDICULOUS !!! R-22 substitutes abound and are not that expensive but moving up in efficiency etc isnt terrible either. Personally I would look for different HVAC company.
