There is a difference between spalling and shrapnel. Spalling are fragments of the armor after it has been hit. These fragments can be dangerous when they come from the back side of the armor. Think of it as a billiard ball reaction. Shrapnel are fragments of the projectile. The spalling lining is primarily there to mitigate spalling rather than shrapnel, but it does help with shrapnel also.

You mentioned knives with soft body armor. Oddly enough many don’t understand that bullet proof does NOT equal knife proof. This is due to how the Kevlar fibers react.

Here in Brazil (military police), we use a plate Carrier on top of a soft vest.

Fellow Canadian! Nice vid. I often wondered about not seeing a lot of people using a plate carriers in as private security. U mentioned over 30 Pounds vs about 8 in soft armour 😨. Some plate carrier also accommodate soft armour too.

Problem is, when it comes to the guy coming at you with a rifle part,,,if I had a rifle and was targeting a guy,I would use the rifles advantage of distance, you might never see me coming,so you'd have no chance of disengaging or hitting the ground.

Usa troops are trained to work with extreme weights. This was first incorporated by the Japanese during the warlord periods. Basically, a plated armor is like a feather to a USA soldier.

In wars between real powers artillery shrapnel causes 70+% of deaths apparently. Kevlar stops shrapnel which are very small light debris very well. Not so much with bullets. In recent one sided wars where US soldiers go door to door it seems a plate carrier is better. I wouldn't want to carry 30lbs of plates it I was in a war zone with artillery. I'd rather be able to run lol

I'm sure you've noticed the thick fogs at an unnaturally high rate as they're moving up and down the coasts. But I think it doesn't hurt to consider all possible threat vectors

Well if you live in Canada and you can buy body armour buy it because I’m in a place where you don’t need a license or anything to buy it but for some odd reason the police still wanna know you got it I think they’re going to put it on the list with everything else and get in this 3-D printing before you need a license to buy a printer

DEREX X most of the time it’s the plates that matter, the vest itself acts more as a carrier for either the metal or Kevlar plates
