Softball Pitching Instruction progression drills

I used to be a pitcher in high school WAY back in the day and I never got direction like this. My daughter is now 13 and starting her pitching career. I'm thrilled this video is out here to help me explain everything to her. She already has some bad habits and is struggling so we are going to do these drills. I feel she will be able to correct things quickly and be on the right track to a successful pitching career! Thank you!

I've struggled for 2 years to get my (now) 10U lefty to pitch. The instruction we had locally just did not make sense. I followed you four-step progression and in one day had her throwing hard strikes with ease. I am so thankful for this video and the effort you put into it.

Update: Gigi is almost 13 now, 5'-6" tall and pitches 55-56mph. Her warmup is a little different now, though I still stand behind these for learning and younger pitchers. One thing this video does not show that your daughter will need to eventually get is a loose forearm whip with more internal rotation of the forearm. You'll notice her arm is pretty tense after release. That should be loose and floppy after release. The more relaxed through the motion the better, with the only tension developing right before release as the palm is still facing somewhat backwards right before release (for fastball) when it rotates quickly to cause an added acceleration from the internal rotation of the wrist. (For 8U beginners don't overanalyze this or worry about it, just stick with learning the basic motions and timing.)

How old is she? My daughter is 12 now and her warm ups have evolved but she still uses some of these principles.

omg someone almost as tall as me except I'm 11 and 5'6" 1/2 its really great to see other tall people in softball because at school I'm the odd one out

Great job both by you and the Pitcher. My daughter now pitches in High School and works with a Tincher instructor. In 12U my daughter threw into a Tarp 4-6 times a week from 5-10 feet away only threw to me maybe 100 balls the whole winter. Amazing change in control and velocity. More importantly never felt sore or tired.

Fantastic progression and really effective with my 12Us!

These are modified progressions inspired from the Tincher Method. Once your daughter has become comfortable with the basics of feeling the release and has developed pretty good mechanics, she can just do Drills 2 and 4 before going to full pitch. While I did my best to go over a lot of the mechanics, there is still a lot of minor detail that is not discussed that only a pitching coach can address. I recommend checking out a Tincher Certified instructor or get a lesson with Denny Tincher himself as your daughter progresses through 10U if you found this instruction to be helpful or if your daughter uses these progressions.

Hello Mike, Thanks for the video. My 10u, soon to be 12u started with a tincher instructor in January. We have been to about 7-8 lessons and these are the exact drills we work on week after week. I can't believe the control and accuracy with her pitches. We still have alot to work on and would like to get some more speed but I think that will come. Although, she is moving to 12u with the bigger ball and farther distance so we will see how that goes.
