I've just purchased a skein of this absolutely BEAUTIFUL dark amethyst shade wool yarn to make my mom a scarf with and I hate to admit but it's kind of stiff and kind of scratchy. When I'm done I'll try this out and report back with results!

As a former hotel employee...YES, take the shampoo, soap and conditioner. Housekeeping is just going to switch it out anyway when they clean the room for the next guest, lol. Good to know that it works. I feel you on your washer. I only have a drain/spin option. I have the option for a 2nd rinse but it has to be on a wash cycle for that to happen. I wish I had a rinse/spin option, lol.

So...I'm being economical by taking the shampoo...it sounds so much better than cheap LOL.

After soaking it in the sink, lay a couple of towels out on your counter or table and lay the soaking wet item on the towels (after you remove as much of the water as you can) and roll it up and wring it out. Might have to do this 2-3 times with dry towels each time. Then, block it.

That would definitely have worked better. That sweater was so heavy and I dripped water all the way across the house to the laundry room.

I never ever twist wool when trying to get the water out. When you do this it will "pull " the fibers apart and you will get what you saw in the drum of your machine. If you put the project between towels and just press or even stand on it is best. Then all u do is lay it flat to dry. Sometimes when hanging a large garment the weight of the wet wool will stretch out your project. I hope these tips help you in your adventures in our awesome craft. Love your episodes

Thanks for the tips, Laurie. I appreciate it. No wonder I had fluffies all over the washer. Normally, I'm blocking shawls and I can just press the majority of the water out. The sweater was so heavy I could barely lift it out of the sink so I knew I'd never get it upstairs to my blocking boards. Who knew knitting could be weight training LOL

I always keep all the hotel goodies. I take most of them to our women’s shelter. Thanks for doing the experiment. I don’t wring out my projects, I just squeeze out as much water as possible then lay them on a beach towel, roll it up and stomp on it. 😁. I’ve got a scarf I’m going to try first. It’s my favorite color but I never wear it because it doesn’t feel good.

I normally press mine out, too. But this was too heavy and water soaked. I felt like I was weight training by trying to heft it LOL.

I use conditioner for ALL my knitting and crocheting projects. It works much better than fabric softener.

If you need conditioner or other liquid soap to come out faster, take top off and microwave for five seconds. Yes, even that short of time makes a big difference. We usually do this to get the last out of a bottle to add to the next bottle. Also check your drain and spin cycle on your washer. That cycle on mine spins only, no rinse.

I use to be able to stop my washer by opening the lid. I have not used our new one so no idea if that works. But if you could stop the rinse cycle before it spins, you could soak it in there with the conditioner... close the lid for the spin and you'd be done.

Morning Katrina, glad it kinda worked for you. Maybe in Summer you could do it again and put it outside to dry? I'll give you a laugh now. The code you put up on the screen, well I read it as JANE XTRA 30! 😅🤷 See you Saturday. Take care xxJane 🎉

Ya know I just had my dault that hair conditioner would soften clothes so I took one of my thickest and and stiff sweat shirts for a day a half and now that sweat shirt is as soft as silk so I'm a strong believer on this...

You usually want to rinse the conditioner out afterwards, don’t you? I know I do! The method works much better with an acrylic or acrylic mix that needs help.
@katrinascreationscrafting

Some of the videos that I watched they rinsed it out and others they didn't. Rinsing it out still made it much softer than it was before.

I haven't worn it yet, but I don't think it will be bad. If it still bothers my neck, I will try again...minus the washing machine.
