This was great. Saved me a lot on the learning curve. I got some heat shrink and F connectors to avoid the issues you brought up. Thanks! One recommendation for anyone truing to work on an RV roof: put a door mat or similar item on the roof to protect your work area so you don't accidently damage the roof by stepping on a tool or screw.

Great video! I am waiting on mine now. I ordered a SoftStart RV off of an Amazon 2nd party reseller last week and got the unit without the connectors and no box just thrown into an old FedEx bag. I returned the unit back to Amazon and ordered another on directly from SoftStart. Your video is a lot of help. Buyer beware when ordering from stuff like this from Amazon. Some of their sellers are not a contentious as others. Love the dog by the way!

I'm about to gather all the tools acording to your suggested list and climb up on the roof of my our Lazy Daze to give this installation a shot but on a much older (1994) model Dometic.... fingers crossed but your video makes me feel much more confident about tackling this task. Thanks for the post!

As a follow up I had to contact soft start because my 1985 Dometic AC wiring wasn’t listed on the web site. Soft start replied the same day I submitted a troubled ticket with a super professional and highly experienced tech. He not only helped me over the phone at 8 PM but also drew up the wiring diagram for my records. I was done wiring in 10 minutes with the techs help. It finished the job after about 45 minutes because I wanted the wires tucked and protected and mounted the Softstart . Anyway the system works perfect. Thanks for your great video and thanks to Softstart for awesome support. Have a good one

Hi Clay ! Well I got the job done today wile watching your video, thanks men ! I can confirme something about generator. I got a Firman inverter gas generator 3650W at start and 3300W wile running and I got 2 ac Dometic 15000 BTU, so I turn everyrhing off in my fifth wheel and turn both ac on one at low fan and one at high fan. I came with a draw of 27 amp with the generator, fantastic I can run both ac with my generator.

Great video thank you for posting and sharing. I have the exact same AC Unit. I chose to drill a hole in the capacitor cover then seal it. I ran the wires through that hole . As for the wires for the compressor . I used the wire routing that the factory wires use that travel below the fan. So now there is no wires on the outside of the capacitor box near the fan. All my wires entered from the whole I drilled and the two that exit to the compressor do so from within the capacitor box. I really want to thank you for helping me figure out where to Mount the soft start box and to use better connectors which I purchased from Harbor freight. The bridal AC soft start cost me 189 on Amazon.

Thanks for the helpful video...of course MY Dometic A/C looks almost nothing like yours inside, so I am making "adjustments" as I go. 🤨 I have a 2011 Montana so it's obviously an older model of Dometic. Haven't yet seen a KZbin video showing this particular model. The SoftStart website "says" all Dometics are the same regardless of model...we shall see! I took quite some time cleaning mine inside (it was filthy) so didn't get a chance to finish today...

Did you use shore power or generator to power the soft start
@clayhughes32632 жыл бұрын
In the video I used shore power. Since then, I’ve used my generator a lot so far this summer. The softstart and AC work just fine off my generator power. It doesn’t bog it down like it did before so that’s nice. The generator was also the main reason I bought the Softstart in the first place lol

What size generator is appropriate when using the soft start? I have a 13,500 BTU Dometic AC.
@clayhughes3263 Жыл бұрын
It depends on your power requirements. How many amps does your AC unit need to start and then to run? Do you want to be able to use the microwave at the same time? Lots of things go into generator selection. In my situation I run my AC off of a 3,500 watt generator with (and without) softstart. However I can’t run the microwave at the same time. I’m also limited if I want to run the fridge off electric or if I’m running it on propane. I have solar for lights and TV. I’m pretty frugal with power so mostly only use the generator when I need AC or to charge my batteries. Your situation might be different. Generally speaking, I’d say 3.5k is adequate/minimum to run one AC, and a 5k generator will meet the needs for most people. Multiple AC units or other factors could dramatically change that answer.
@digitalguru42 Жыл бұрын
Like Clay said it depends on how much you want to run at one time. If it's just the A/C and no other major draws of power, my understanding is that you should be able to run that A/C unit with a 2000w generator. I'm installing this unit this weekend and will be using a Honda E2000 generator. Fingers crossed it'll work!
