I would've used the other knob for screen brightness. With newer monitors also supporting DDC too and not just laptop screens, it should definitely be possible.

I've been crazy about brightness for years, and all this time there was a simple way to control it automatically from software?? thanks!!!

The space and Tab bar are insane! what monster decided to mess up the perfect grid by not making them 3 and 2 long!!! If they do v2 fix those, also make sure all the 3 and 2 sized keys have 2 switches under them so you can actually swap them out and now it can be reprogrammed as a massive macro/control pad

Right? Or at least 2.5 each. 2.25 and 2.75 is an insane choice for an otherwise great keyboard
@Hionimi
@Hionimi 28 күн бұрын
@@kevinwells9751Have you looked how common 2.5U keys are? And before you say Keychron could make it, people also want to be able to add other keycap sets, and a 2U Enter key is already challenging enough as it is.

Ortho looks worse than a horitonzal stagger tbh. Vertical stagger is the way to go IMO.
@codetothemoon

I personally prefer ortho over row stagger, but I agree vertical stagger is preferable to both!
@taylormanning2709
@taylormanning2709 Ай бұрын
Ortho is much better than horizontal stagger, as both hands can operate symmetrically at least. Sure column stagger is ideal, but so is concavity. The drawback of both is cost of production. Ortho is a cheap and simple way to escape row stagger. There is also the factor of compactness

Would be great if they released a version without the number row. Like a Q9 Plus, but ortholinear. With one knob, not two.

@@codetothemoon some Keychron Q products also have V Version (budget, plastic body). Like V10 is budget version of Q10.

Given that you use various kb layouts like split and ortho-linear, do you find it challenging to switch between them? Particularly when returning to a favorite keyboard after getting used to a new one?
@calmcode-io

Doesn't the ortholinear (but not columnar) design here forcing the wrists to go more inward? If you keep both hands straight in line with the keys it feels like it might hurt the wrists longterm.
@codetothemoon
@codetothemoon Ай бұрын
I don't think this is a function of columnar vs ortholinear, but a function of whether each half of the keyboard is angled outward. That could mean splitting the board into two halves so the user can angle them outward, or a non split board that has the keys arranged in a way that allows for a more neutral wrist angle. To your point though, this board doesn't solve any of the ulnar deviation problems you'd have with more traditional boards.

When you reprogram keys with the Keychron software, does it store the change on the keyboard, or is it a windows driver thing? I often work through multiple layers of VMs, remote desktops, teamviewer sessions, etc. running a mix of OSes, and getting the ctrl/capslock remapping through all that can be a giant pain.
@codetothemoon
@codetothemoon Ай бұрын
the changes are actually made on the board itself, so if you move it to another computer (or VM) the changes move with it!

I kind of think mechanical keyboards are majorly overrated. I've had a ton but never really liked any of them, eventually I got a regular chiclet keyboard and I just like it every way more, it's more quiet (silent), wireless, less travel, takes way less effort to press (doesn't hurt my knuckles (I'm weak)), and I really prefer the feeling, I've never had a chiclet keyboard fail (while I've had a few mechanical keyboards break) Also not sure if I could ever not use a split layout ergonomic keyboard ever again. I need that fat armrest, negative tilt, and angled split layout. Basically I think I've found my forever keyboard in the Logitech k860. Everything about it is just so perfect for me. The ortho linear looks nifty, but seems more like something I'd be interested in trying for a few hours and never touch again, I'd tell my wife I'm going to sell it on marketplace but really its just gonna sit in storage... Nice video as always though!

If only they made laptops that had a keyboard with an ergonomic split layout. Sure it would be huge, but that's fine with me honestly
