Absolutely appreciate how tough it is to replay the worst moments in your life to a stranger and in turn millions of others. And whilst I appreciate that, as a man who's raised two step children, going out and getting blind drunk doesn't result in you committing a sex crime against a minor.

Also he was 21 years old and was living with a single mom and her four kids? Why not rent a room in a house with a bunch of other young adults? Sounds sketchy because men who abuse kids often prey on vulnerable single moms to get closer to their kids. So it seems premeditated.

Being "black out drunk" medically qualifies as your brain being unable to form new memories leading to the sheer panic and dumbfounded suprise when friends or relatives (or in this case, a child or their parent) describe what you did the night before. Some people refer to this as "beer fear" and will usually avoid taking responsibility for their actions because of this. A majority of abusers and abuse occurs when the perpetrator premeditates the act by engaging the victim or cornering them in order to isolate them away from any parent or authority figures for long enough to complete the act. The only reason I know this is because I'm a victim myself who's never even considered or had any urge to pass down that same life long sentence of trauma onto another soul extending the chain of abuse for generations to come. What I'm having a hard time with is the excuses that seem to underline every issue or problem that's ever occurred in this young man's life. The only time he takes ownership of his actions are to be some strange type of martyr for future generations. This is one of the most misguided "taxicab confessions" I've ever seen and with each positive ideation of "helping others" is conveyed, the harder it is to believe it's coming from a genuine place and not a reason to have a lesser opinion of him.

Thanks, I never want to come off as "preachy" because if their's one thing I'm not, it's perfect. However, the older I get, the more I realize the only way to let my conscious rest in order to get on or even get over my past mistakes is to take ownership of them in a completely honest and humble way. Not "humble bragging" or "blame shifting/gaslighting" like I get the sense is going on with this gentlemen. I can't imagine how difficult it is for someone that's had a past like his to even begin to open up to the world without firstly, putting his convictions (the legal kind) out front in order to be the one to shape the narrative to his liking. Instead of someone finding out after the fact and then calling him out for it, which I imagine has happened to him a few times and that's why he came out with it so soon but also described it in a way as if he was "sacrificing the opinion of his character" for future "would be" offenders. It almost feels like the other abusers that Marks interviewed seem to have a bit more validity in their stories when they take ownership of what they've done without any excuses or "jumping on the grenade" for us.

Here is something that is perplexing, yet I see how things turned out. I know a family. Mom and dad both druggies. Grandma too(granny held a job, got her kids into the drugs) Dad went to prison for theft, stealing to support the habit. They had 3 children, the oldest got a job at the age of 16,Told the employer his life. Said employer took him under his wing. He is now very successful, part owner in the same business he worked at age 16. Big brother influence over younger sisters resulted in both becoming very successful in their careers. All have college degrees. Moral of the story. One man( the boss that took the oldest under his wing) changed the lives of 3 children that were raised in a horrific environment. Not only those 3 but their families as well. As Mark said in one show, the adults cannot always be helped, if the kids can be saved , it will changed the direction of them and their children.

The impact of so many suicides around a person will tend to "normalize" it enough to make it the option over seeking professional help. Sometimes the help you find doesn't click. It's ok to admit it's not working and you move until you find the therapy that works for you. Honestly will set you free and sharing your story is important to help yourself and others. I'm not a doctor but I've been through it and still working through mental and physical injuries. I've found, for myself, as a once super athletic person that lost my dream of going pro, going to the gym will turn your focus on being your best for you so you can give back. The gym, yoga, biking....get back into life and into you. If you don't take care of yourself, nobody else will.

It’s crazy to think he’s “working on himself” when he hasn’t seen a therapist since he was very young. He clearly would rather help someone else than deal with himself. He needs to be honest with himself about his issues before he can improve upon them. He can’t move forward without dealing with the past. Telling his mother to repeatedly kill herself through texts and then 30 seconds later saying “she’s my mother and I love her” doesn’t add up.

Thank you very much for sharing your story honestly. To me it sounds like the biggest thing you don't know is that you are not your ego. What I mean is I think you are confusing your history and labels for who you are. You said you don't know who you are...You are so much more then any of this stuff.. I have recovered from addiction, severe mental health conditions brought on by childhood trauma and I had lots of therapy but nothing ever helped me as much as realizing that I was IDENTIFYING with my history and labels. I wish I had the right words for you., because your trying to help others so I want to help you. The audio books 📚 The Power of Now and The Untethered Soul helped me more than years of therapy. Thanks for sharing Calvin. Most of us still don't know what we want to do for a "career" or even know what we're passionate about. One thing I've found helpful is to get out there and try new, healthy or interesting things. Take something you're slightly curious about and start learning more about it. Passion or talent is really just a pursued interest. Sounds like you're a good athlete and could benefit from continuing to say active. I'm 35 and started running for the first time about 2 years ago. Could only do 1-2 miles at first. Decided to challenge myself and go further. Learned more about how to train (go slower at first & make it fun, listen to music/podcasts). Now I'm hoping to finish my first 100 mile ultramarathon in October. It all started by getting out of my comfort zone and being consistent. You can do it man.
