Doris, our paths would sometimes cross on my way walking to and from Mason St. where I worked in 2019-2020. I remember one day stopping to ask if you were alright when I saw you distraught and crying. You told me about your daughter and how much you loved her. We went over to the Subway and I got you lunch. When I went into work that day before I left you, you kissed me on the cheek and told me how much it meant to you that someone asked if you were okay. This has stuck with me and I frequently have thought about how I wish I asked you more. You are a strong, beautiful and loving woman. I will stay thinking of you.

Yeah, she's like me, I keep alot of things in silence 🤐. I have social anxiety, major depression. It's so hard for me to meet people that I get panic attacks. They say it's better to let it out than stuff things cause in my case, I ended up in mental hospitals crying my azz off. I cried and for the 1 time, I let everything out! And it helped me so much. God bless you! 🤗😢

@@666blindrider That is good news that you found a way to release that anxiety. It's so important that you don['t let things build up and overwhelm you. She is flash backing, disassociation, day dreaming and reliving the emotions and feelings of all of her traumas at once when she pauses. This is why drug abusers and alcoholics try to numb themselves to shut up the Super Ego they havent figured out how to fix it with positive directives yet and not the addictive learned negative day dreaming. ..is what Ive learned. I can feel her pain. This was hard to watch. It's so harsh. I just want to wrap my arms around her and hold her and give her some safety and shelter from her pain. I feel she's forgotten how to accept that from anyone. I'm 4 yrs older than her and she looks so much older than me because of what she's suffered. My life has not been easy. I have CPTSD but I have had it so easy compared to her. This woman has such a beautiful soul and mind. She's beautiful physically too. That she still has love and compassion for others is remarkable. It's so hard to grasp why life for some has to be so cruel and torturous. And that the people blame themselves for where they find themselves. I even do it myself but I'm lucky to be in therapy now and on the road to healing my own traumas. Thank you Mike for sharing and doing what you do to shed light on this epidemic of homelessness and addiction. I have found myself homeless 3 times and was lucky to have friends and family who gave me shelter until I could find and pay for a place of my own all of those times. I. Also lucky that I dont suffer from substance addiction. Most are not as fortunate and I have been.

Yes I have CPTSD too. And I can see the disassociation ...pauses, the traumas being felt all over again. Yea, of all the ones I've seen this one really hit hard. You can tell how traumatic that must have been for her. I sincerely hope she finds some happiness and peace in her life.

She seems to protect her emotional boundaries a lot (i.e. deciding she doesn't want to go any further on certain questions, allowing herself silence when she needs it), but in a respectful way (she doesn't lash out at Mark if he starts to take her out of her comfort zone). I admire that a lot. Some people with an upbringing like hers really struggle to know when and how to assert those boundaries. I got a far, far better start in life than Doris but even I often fail to protect my boundaries because I didn't really learn to do so in childhood. So I feel like it must have taken her a lot of experience and a lot of strength to learn how to say "I don't want to open that up" or "Sorry, I can't talk about this anymore". She *is* beautiful. For sure.

My daughter is almost this woman's age and also an alcoholic. She threw away her life, her children, her family, her chances in life for the bottle. I will never understand it. She's been in so many rehab centers and hospitals and jail and halfway homes. But as soon as she gets out (sometimes before)she heads for a bar. She has robbed and stolen from and abused everyone who has loved her or tried to help her. We are all afraid of her. The thing that runs through my mind is that i left her father when she was ten months old because he was abusive and an alcoholic and heroin addict which I had no idea about when I married him after getting pregnant by him at 17. I left with my little baby and had a hard time for many years but I didnt want her to grow up with an alcoholic father. Now she is just like him. Life can be so cruel.

When you see that alcoholic or addict on the street that you don’t lock eyes with and you keep walking .. there’s a person in there with goals , who’s had love and lost it, who gave life to this world , who’s survived horrible things neither you nor I could imagine .. stop, look at her, smile, say hello, ask if she’d like to talk awhile .. make the invisible.. visible again .. you’d be surprised how far that will go with them .. I appreciate your hard work Mark. The more light that’s shed on the underlying social issues causing the growing problem of homeless in the U.S. Life is difficult enough without lacking of family and direction. Near impossible for the victims of circumstance. There’s not near enough attention and resources to put a dent in the problem. It will be interesting to see what model Austin, Tx executes to head off their growing homeless population. Prevention is the only way. As you exhibited through Lima and Ammanda - it’s very expensive to get somebody off the street and prepared for being a productive member of society. That’s where any human derives their worth. How can we expect these people to change when they have no love, family, or understanding how to navigate this life. Nobody can do it alone for a lifetime. It breaks the very spirit it takes to overcome extreme adversity.

Dear Doris, I'm sorry for all the pain you've endured. You're a lovely woman. Beautiful and intelligent. I have never felt love so quickly for any other interviewee as I did for you. Please don't feel ashamed about your life. Anyone in here with a heart like Mark's doesn't judge you. We only wish you good. Thank you for sharing your story with us. Much love and hugs to you from Michigan.💖💖💖

So nice for the interviewer to tell Doris was beautiful, because she is. The courage it requires to talk about things that probably shame her is immeasurable. She NEEDED to hear that, you can tell from her reaction. It's probably the first time she has heard that for a very long time, and sometimes something like that can save a person's life.

Mark I love the name you choose for your channel (saw your explanation as well) and it fits so perfect! The portraits of all these people, it does something! You can't and you don't have to save them all, that is clear! But you reached millions of people and made them think, there are always two sides of a coin! Believe a viewer in a crowd of millions, what it does is priceless! I am sure a lot in the comment section agree with me!

Yeah...that explanation was one of my favorite things Mark has put out there. It really resonates with me, both as a long time street person and somebody who has done a lot of cat rescue (and by rescue I don’t mean letting any cat breed, starve, or be exposed to illness. I mean housing, spay/neuter, vaccinate, foster, and re-home).

Mark, I appreciate what your doing for these people. Please, when you talk to them slow your speaking to their level of energy. You probably not realizing it sounds harsh and they seem to have a hard time processing your questions. Thank you for letting us know her story. Thank you Doris for telling us your story.
